Saturday morning I was on the bus enroute to the mall. I was interested (yet a little annoyed) to notice that the bus driver was reading what was on a sheet of paper as she was driving. Then I thought it's only a few lines, so I guess it's OK--but I became curious as to what she was reading. Later that day I was riding back to the mall from the theatre--and noticed a passenger sitting across from me show another rider an identical sheet of paper to that which I'd seen the bus driver reading that morning. Curiouser and curiouser. So when I boarded the bus to go home and noticed an identical sheet of paper across from the seat in which I was about to sit, I picked it up. It says:
It's Nearly Midnight
My bed remains unmade
As I stare at each wrinkle in my bed sheets
I think of the Ocean's waves
Which will drown me to sleep
