Close Breast Cancer
Stage: IIB (T2 N1)I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 6/6/06 at 33 years old.I was terrified,and afraid that I would die and leave my children.I had 4 AC treatments followed by 4 Taxotere.I never knew that a human being could be so sick and live through it.I was HER2+++ so I recieved Herceptin every 3 weeks.After 7 months,a MUGA scan revealed heart damage so no more Herceptin for me,ever.I took Femara for about 6 months since the chemo had put me in "chemopause".I hurt so bad sometimes I would just cry.
Treatments
- Adriamycin Working / Worked
- So far, I am cancer free.I experienced horrible side effects such as vomiting,nausea,mouth ulcers,diarrea and of course hair loss.I have permanent side effects as well.This drug combined with Herceptin damaged my heart and my teeth are crumbling.
- Chemotherapy Working / Worked
- Chemo left me with the body and mind of a 90 year old.My teeth are crumbling,fibro and heart damage.
- Femara Working / Worked
- I had horrible joint pain.That was really my only side effect,my hot flashes lessened and libido returned.
- Herceptin Working / Worked
- My miracle drug!!!I am almost 2 years cancer free however combined with AC left me with heart damage.
- Mastectomy Working / Worked
- I had bilateral with tissue expanders put in at surgery.I had 800cc silicone implants 12/06.The surgery was really hard on me.The pain was almost uncontrollable.I slept in a recliner for 5 months afterwards and now,almost 2 years later,I still have pain in my ribs and chest.
- Nolvadex Working / Worked
- I am currently on Tamoxifen.I have hot flashes,zero libido and joint pain.
- Reconstructive Surgery Working / Worked
- I had tissue expanders and now have 800 cc silicone implants.The fills with the expanders caused alot of discomfort due to muscle spasms,I had all my fills while on chemo,then PS made me wait 1 month for implants.I had nipples done but didn't do well so I will have that redone soon.
- Surgery Working / Worked
- See "Mastectomy"
- Taxotere Working / Worked
- The nausea wasn't as bad as with the AC.I had severe bone pain,fatigue,my eyes watered constantly.
- Effexor Working / Worked
- Saved my sanity.I do worry about coming off it after reading about others experiences.If I miss 1 dose,I cry all day.
- Provigil Working / Worked
- Chemotherapy left me with severe fatigue and having congestive heart failure also contributes to it.I began taking Adderal first and loved it because I lost 8 lbs in 1 week!My cardiologist switched me to the Provigil beacause Adderal as well as all other stimulates raced my heart.I take 200 mg when I first wake up then 200 mg 4 hours later.I have had great results with no side effects.The only downside to it is the price and some people that really need it can't get it.Provigil has given my life back allowing me to cook,clean and play with my kids.
Close Chronic Pain
I have DDD,scoliosis,C4-5 herniated so have bad neck pain that radiates down my arm and up into my ear and face.Chemo treatments left me with neuropathy,chronic joint pain,arthritis.Still have pain in chest and ribs from bilateral mastectomy.
Treatments
- Heat Somewhat Helpful
- Sometimes helps neck pain
- Hydrocodone Working / Worked
- I take 6 10/325 daily for breakthrough pain.If the pain is bad it takes 2.
- Lidoderm Working / Worked
- I wear these on my neck when the pain gets bad.They are deadly to pets and my little Pomeranian sleeps with me so I have to be careful.
- Lyrica Working / Worked
- This is an absolute miracle drug!!! I love it with the exception of it makes me feel like I have drank a fifth of Jack Daniels.Makes me higher than any narcotic I ever took.It works great for the nerve pain and fibromyalgia but I hate that drunk and high feeling so I only take it when the pain level gets to an 8 or 9.
- Marijuana Working / Worked
- None of the anti-nausea meds worked during chemo so I did try it and it worked.
- Nerve Blocks Considering
- I really want to try the injections but am a little iffy.
- Oxycodone Working / Worked
- Works well.Not a drug to take only when in pain,has to build up in blood to work properly.I like it because I do not have that "high" feeling of some narcotics,just helps the pain.I don't like the stigma attached with it though.
- TENS Somewhat Helpful
- I use my TENS unit quite a bit.It does help some with my neck.
- Carisoprodol Working / Worked
- I take it for muscle pain.Works well with no side effects for me.
