Don't worry about it, some days I have a lot of time to check and respond, other days, well, it can be crazy. I also babysit my 3 1/2 year old grandson while his mom is in college. I don't conservator ship for my husband, just POA and also he has an Advanced Directive. Something you and your sister should definitely talk about. My dad died of liver cancer 3 years ago and fortunately my mom and me and my sister all agreed about how it should handled, some families fight about it.

Conservatorship is much more powerful and binding than Power of Attorney. Power of Attorney simply means that you can sign legal documents for the person. You can't make medical decisions, you can't receive money in their name (like social security or pension, etc). They can still handle their own decision making, like giving their money away to anyone they want. So they may not pay their bills but go to the store and buy unnecessary items. Anyone can give anyone else POA, example soldiers overseas give their spouse POA to sign papers for them etc. Now conservatorship is given to a responsible person who is then completely responsible for that person. You would be responsible everything about that person, paying their bills, deciding where they live, deciding their medical care, everything. That is why it is determined by a judge. You must apply for it and provide evidence that this person is no longer able to take care of themselves, like doctor letters etc. You would need to discuss with a lawyer. So it is much more serious but it does become necessary as our loved ones get further along in this disease, especially if you are not a spouse.
