This might seem stupid but I find the more positive things I can stuff in my brain when it's manic the better it is for me when I'm depressed. Here are the two books I forgot:
The Magic of Believing by Claude Bristol
And the most important book of all and the one that got me started (don't let the title mislead you, these books is about setting positive goals and believing in yourself. Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude and Think and Grow Rich.both by Napoleon Hill
I highly both these books. Remember the old saying, "garbage in garbage out".

Hi Gracie, well, I am so glad to hear that you are putting your dis-ease in order and making it work for you. Since you like to read, try readying some book by " Kay Redfield Jamison" she is the worlds leading authoridy on "Manic- Depression" "Bipolar's" she is one and is yet very active and has all kinds of PHD's and knowing the disease by being one, she is really on top of it. I am so glad to hear that your medicine is working for you. You are one of the lucky one's. Hang in there girl, it really gets great. It may get crazy first, but it gets great as well. If there is anything that I can do, just give me a shout and I would be glad to help and be there for you. I have been a diognosed bipolar for over 12 years, but I believe that I have been bipolar a lot longer than that. Finding out that I was one and investigating the illness is the best thing that I could have done. Learning all that I could about this illness has helped my grandchildren and children. This illness is heireditary, I hate to say, but knowing it, if the first part of the solution. Now two of my grandchildren are being treated now, and they say that, treating them when they are young, may keep them from having to take med's and such later. So, I thank God for my Education, it really came in handy. I am watching one of them go thru it and watching her get better daily. So, I am thankful that God gave me the intelligence to go forward, rather than just sitting around and crying like some people do. Hang in there, sorry this was a book. If I can help at anytime, please just give me a shout.
