Five years ago started jaw re-positiong( orthotics) the alternative to jaw-repositiong surgery. After a long period of time stretching my muscles a long tedious process, my jaw was finally centered and my Prosodontist put 6 specially designed crowns in to secure the jaw in the proper position.
I could not have the regular surgical procedure because of too much bone loss, and the jaw would not have stayed in the proper position, and would dislocate again. Then started the long process of healing, all the ligements and muscles and soft tissue had to heal. Usually when you get the surgical procedure you have you braces on so they wire your jaw closed, but since I had not braces on the healing process took alot longer.
Finally I am at the point where I don't have to wear the night guard because it was helping me to heal in the proper position. Now that it is almost completely healed it seems to be moving forward a little more without the splint and healing better. I have no pain without the splint and no more adjustments.
I do wear it during the day at times, and I still have displaced discs that occurred during the dislocation, so still have to stay on soft food. I am pain free now and will be fine just watch what I eat. Sleep well and no pain in the morning, best of all no splint. I really clench more in the day than at night.
The surgeon was the person who told me about orthotics, but get a great doctor, which I did.
Orthotics is the alternative to jaw repositioning surgery and it does work. My lower jaw was pulled quite a bit to a forward position, more of a chin now.
Have a great day all!

great to hear you're doing better!

Amazing. Wish I had done this.

How are you feeling now? Did they take the discs out?
