I'm resisting the urge to reply to posts that completely bash low carb diets! I am not an Atkins advocate but his new book is much less aggressive from what i understand. I am not that extreme.
I am sick of people assuming that all low carb diets are nothing but red meat, fat and cheese. I eat lean meat and more vegies than I ever did before. I also try to get in lots of good fats with nuts, avocados and olives.
I actually started going more low carb as well as the calorie reduction because focusing on low cal just wasn't working! If you try to fix something and it still isn't working right you may have to tweek it or totally fix it again! I am glad I started by learning to eat a more balanced diet before trying to go so low carb (30-40 a day... 90 one day a week) I joined a low carb support site and have learned so much more about how to balance and eat well. I have done low carb before and it always worked well for me. With my health issues however, I was afraid to try again. I was amazed that my Doctor encouraged me when I brought it up on my last visit. He did warn against starting too low or ever going extreme but I never wanted to go that extreme anyway.
No, I can't have my 100 cal cookie packs anymore but you know what, who cares?!? I have learned to make treats that are full of good fats and taste wonderful. My Aunt is a diabetic and her Doc took her off fruit and fruit juice. They spike her insulin and it was giving her trouble. You can get your carbs from other places. It's alot more work but I am finally seeing results. My last blood work came back better than it has in over 2 years. My Doc told me that whatever I'm doing KEEP DOING IT!!!
Any eating plan is only as good for you as you make it!
Rant over.. I didn't want to vent my annoyance in anyone's forum post so I did it here![]()

It has been almost 8 months since my wife had an emotional affair online with one of her former high school …
The wife and I had another argument tonight. Today seemed to start out great, except for my football team …
Absolutely agree that not all low carb diets are as fanatic as Atkins. I do a similar diet as you've describe. I allow myself red meat once a week and I eat cheese. Dairy is good in moderation and I try to stick to lower fat cheeses. I also make an effort to eat green leafies everyday...and I am very careful of the fats and calories.
I do...which most low carbers will bulk at but I don't care...allow myself honey once a day (helps to boost metabolism when taken in the morning and has medicinal purposes) and when I need to sweeten something I will also use Agave Syrup (which has a low glycemic index and is plant based...so it's a nutrient which absorbs into the bloodstream slowly.)
I designed my program based on bits and pieces of dieting wisdom and somewhat on the book "In Defense of Food".
