PFT Today for Spiration Mood
Saturday, July 25, 2009
Probably won't get the results for about a week.  I told a friend here that I was worried about feeling to good because of my disability claim.  She reminded me how important it was to remain on my regular meds for the integrity of the test so I did.   Shouldn't have worried about it.  This whole last week my neighbors on both side have been barbequing.  I try not to go out when they do because the smoke blows right to where I would have to walk to and from my car. The smoke would be out there when I got home from work.  Some of it gets in the house somehow and really affects me badly.  Today I could tell I didn't do well at all, was definately a bad breathing day.  I'll be glad when the barbarques are put away for the season.  I can't handle smoke at all. I guess I need to get a mask for barbeque days.   What an irony, smoke was my life for 40 years.

Oh I'm with you on that one, sister! Smoke from grills and fireplaces almost does me in. I'm so glad we got a gas grill a few years ago. Makes a big difference. But I have been known to carry one of those ear-loop masks in the glove box of the car, so that if we are driving through heavy smoke from grills or leaf fires, I can put it on. It does help. And yes, It does find a way to seep into the house. I can never open my windows in the summertime.

Otherwise, I hope you are doing ok. Your disability claim will consider much more that just how good you are feeling at the moment, so enjoy!

    Love you,
    Sue

Hope your PFT went as expected. I found the one I had a few weeks ago for the study, the most extensive and difficult one that I have ever had. The research nurse told me one of their study patients actually passed out while doing the test. I didn't feel so bad that I just cried in frustration because it was impossible to do some of the things the tech asked.
But my lungs got a good workout.
I would think that your disability would not be affected either way because the damage to your lungs is permanent and the trial (dependent on the outcome) is just that, a trial. I am praying for good things to come out of the trials but I will settle for any advance in research that comes from it.

I carry one of those loop over the ear masks, that Sue mentioned, in my small purse that I carry everytime I leave the house.
Shirley, thanks for your effort in this study. It will definitely help people in the long run.
    Hugs,
    Anna

Hi, We don't have anyone that is bbqing so not a problem. I have IPF. The test for me wasn't so bad but I too had difficulty completing some of the instructions but I guess that's how they measure where you are. I have had a lung biopsy which was not anything I would want to do again. I have been diagnosed since a year ago last Fed. I am on oxygen 4 ltrs 24/7. Still groc shop and cook and do some cleaning and laundry. Spend quite a bit of time quilting. Live is good actually. Breathing is hard sometimes so just become a couch potato on those days. My husband does all the driving. I have a used scooter we got for $180 and a second hand store that I use for shopping when the store does not have one. Seems to be working well.

Hop you are doing as well as possible. There is another site for folks with pf and it is accessable through yahoo groups.

    Have a great day Jo

i hope the tests come out the way you want them too. let me know when yiou hear about the valves! when do they tell you if you ahve them or not? i want to know1

as for disability...i had no problem. they asked why i didnt' apply when i was first diagnosed. so, i'm hoping your's will be as simple as mine was.
    good luck and stay cool!

I was unable to make one of their scheduled appts. for pulmonary function (they scheduled it and forgot to tell me) so they have to do that before i can find out the results.  The retest is scheduled for 7/24/09.

In the meantime I have bigger fish to fry.  I've been working on the refi of my home to allow me the funds to carry me through while I attempt to get my disability.  Waiting for an appraisor to contact me.  I was told I was pre-approved.  Dr. Rettman filled out the papers I require for my disability yesterday and gave me some test results to sent with it.

I'm also trying to get my oxygen figured out.  They have me on continous flow with home refill and I'm suppose to were it at night and when I walk or exercise.  When I went in yesterday I told him that the tank they gave me to pack around is ridiculous, I can't carry it and the little one only lasts about 20 minutes.  I ask for a retest and they gave me one yesterday while I was already there.  I had no problem with pulse dose.  They also sent me home with a study I did last night while I was sleeping to determine if I need oxygen at night.  They said I don't display any symptoms that would indicate it is necessary and they don't want to pay the rent on a homefill if I don't need it.  So working on that also.

Back to work today, took yesterday off to get these things worked out, made SOME progress.

Shirley, I go thru the same thing with them scheduling tests for me. My CT was scheduled for yesterday in the AM and they called to ask if I forgot and they had not told me about the appt. The nurse said "computer problems". LOL Ok, it's not that I have other offers !!!

I hope your refinancing and disability approval move at a fast pace. Nothing gets done without the usual waiting period. I just klnow that it will get done eventually and then you will do much better.

The portable 02 tanks aren't so portable. I have a problem with the weight. I am only 5' and weigh 103 and I have even given up heavy purses. I do use the pulse dose when I go out (if I need 02. Determining the status of your 02 need is making progress. You have struggled with all of this and it is time that you got a break.

Work sometimes goes better when the end is near. Ha

Take care and I will keep checking on you. Thanks for the update.
    Hugs,
    Anna

Hey girl, I'm home and getting ready to go camping. I would ask to see the results of the test while sleeping, especially when you desat while exercising. They don't want to pay for anything, but make sure you are safe and not causing any damage to the heart, that is what is important. To bad you have to wait for their screw up, but you will know soon. I was kind of hoping to hear some good news lol, but NO they had to go mess it up.

Have a great day. Will send an email on when I will be there.

They said that my oxygen levels remained at 95% for 7 hours of sleep and dropped to 89% for less than 50 seconds. The homefill goes bye bye Friday.

oh, that is too bad Shirley. But, it is not necessarily forever. If you retest at a later date, and the numbers are not as positive then that will change things. Meanwhile, I don't know about everyone else, but I am breathing and feeling much better than I do in winter months. That might be a factor for you as well. We are all different and these things change fairly often. will be praying for you for the results on the 24th. HOpe you are otherwise well. Love jOAnn

I have an appointment to see my doctor on 7/6/09 to find out if I have the values or not.  I really can't say if they have helped or not.  I have noticed that having oxygen to help me through the rough parts of my day has been helpful.

Going over to my son's today for baby Grace's 1st birthday party.  She is going to hate it.  She only wants mom and dad and there are going to be about 30 people there.  Went on a long rode trip with my daughter yesterday and explored some parts of Washington (central western Washington), it is a beautiful state.  She has some baseball tournies coming up and wanted to check out camp grounds.

I have just been struggling getting to work and back.  I have received the papers from the Railroad retirement that I need to fill out and take to the doctor to get my disability claim started.  I have also looked into refinancing my place, hope I havent missed the window. Haven't got the process started but will next week.  I can't really make any moves on my disablility claim until I refinance the house and talk to my doctor.  I have an appointment with him on the 6th.  I did get a treadmill off of craigs list and it's fantastic.  I have it and my exercise bike set up in my living room (I'll take a picture on another day - camera needs a recharge).  I really like it and feel like it.  I feel I have much better handle on things now,  can monitor my oxygen levels and re-establish my exercise program as was laid out for me by rehab.

I'm sorry I have not been responding lately, I just really haven't felt like it.  I've come in and kept up with what's going on but that's about all the energy I have left.

Shirley, I am so happy to read your journal. I was wondering how you wer doing and how your retirement plans were coming along. I am really anxious to find out if you actually have the valves. I am actually not pushing anyone here in the trials hoping that you get your results before they start things going again or that I call them and ask when they will start.

Hope you get to feeling better.
    Hugs,
    Anna

Oh Shirley, I'm so glad that you are getting started on the retirement plans. Yes, I sure do hope you can refi. That will help so much. I just worry about you so much even with the logistics of getting to and from work. I know how difficult it is for you. I'm glad the O2 is helping. Bless your heart! Your strong will and determination is so amazing. Take care, and feel better soon. Love & hugs, Sue

Boy girlfriend, you have a lot of pots in the fire. (isn't that the old saying?) NO wonder ou don't have the energy to not do much in here, with allof that. Besides, we all take breaks now and then. I have been more or less doing the samething. I check in a do a little, but that is about it. But, as Patti said, I do still continue to think about everybody. It has been nice seeing you on facebook. I find it entertaining. I am so hooked on that farm town game. It is addictive. Anyway...luv Ya! JOAnn
