Hi there!! I read your post regarding your heart situation. I am also having a valve replaced with a mechanical one in less than 6 weeks. My mitral valve was badly damaged by an infection. Not sure if you have decided between a plastic or mechanical valve yet but if you are undecided you should read up on them. Normally it depends on your health. For example with me because I have a really poor immune system and I have a history of blood clots I needed to go with a mechanical one. Plastic valves requires blood thinners for a short period of time and eventually over time you will need to replace it again in the future .Mechanical valves you are on blood thinners for the rest of your life. Lots of blood work but at least you will be closely monitored. If you are applying for disability it may take time before the paper work is approved. If you are currently unemployed and do not have insurance my advice to you is to contact your local governmant office. Social Assistance!! There are so many ins and outs to government funding that they don't want people to know about but the good news is that these services are available if you do your homework. I was very fortunate to have an insurance company from the U.S.A to take me on. It was like a gift from God, the salesman came right to my door and signed me on but when they called the Doctors to find out my history they tried to cancel me. Luckily the paper work was already done:) Not sure if they service around where you are but the name of my insurance company is " Combined." I wish you the best of luck and I am hear for you if you need to know anything at all. Take care and God Bless you:) Hugs TJ

Welcome to the stroke group. Many hugs to you.
I’m With You
Dear Shawnlyn, Although your future may be in doubt go on and live like your capable of anything. It is what I did after a ruptured brain aneurysm. I ignore the doctors and made it back to the land of the living. If doctors really knew anything they would not be "praticing" lollol. Eric

I moved out to Texas last May and ended up taking guardianship of my younger brother who is 16 (I'm 22) and also an alocholic and an addict.

- It is amazing how patience works when dealing with a teenager!
- Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
- My brother had been sent to a treatment center per his probation and it didn't really help him. I'm able to communicate with him much more now but when it comes to being sober, he didn't make it 24 hours being out before he had a drink.
Open Families & Friends Of Addicts
