Parents of Daughters PLEASE READ!!!!! Mood
Monday, May 18, 2009 | A Venting story

Friday we had Elanis 4 months check up, the doc was doing a physical exam and he looked at her vagina.  Her inner labia had fused together.  He showed me what he was talking about then he said we had to pull it apart.  He said she may get a little fussy, she was SCREAMING her little face turned bright red, and she cried and cried.  My husband tried calming her down and everything he was doing didnt work.  I made him give her to me and I comforted her and she finally calmed down.  Then the nurse came in and gave her her shots.  Needless to say she had a horrible day.

I later talked to a friend who is a nurse and worked for a pediatrician in another state.  She informed me that her doc never did that, that they prescribed an estrogen cream and you apply that to the adhesion and it will eventually come apart.  I was pissed!  I still am pissed!

I looked at her vagina at the docs office and informed the doc that it looked like it was bleeding, he stated no it is just red.  When I got her home I went to change her and I was wiping the pee off of her so I could apply the vasoline like the nurse instructed and she was bleeding.  Not a whole lot but enough to see it!  Babies are not suppose to bleed down there!  She continued to bleed the rest of that day and the next day.  She was not only sore from her shots but she would scream out every time she urinated, or passed gas.  She loves to sit up but she couldnt b/c it was putting too much pressure on her bottom.

I am so mad at myself for letting that doc hurt her like that.  I sooo wish I knew then what I know now!  Needless to say I am switching pediatricians.

Ive been searching online b/c that poor excuse of a doctor did not give me any information on what a labial adhesion was, what caused it, what can prevent it, and if it can occur again.

Apparently no one really knows what causes it, it cannot be prevented, and it can occur again ***Especially if you forcefully pull it apart***.

I am contacting a new doc today, and my insurance to get everything switched over, I may even make her an appt just so the new doc can evaluate it and see if he thinks it will reoccur.

I cried right along side Elani that night and the next day!  I feel like I did this to her b/c I allowed that stupid man to do that.  DH tries to tell me we didnt know better but I should have stopped him and requested a second opinion!

She is fine now, I think when she gets a little whinny she is a little uncomfortable but nothing like she was that night and the day after.

I just feel so bad for her!

Anyway...Those of you who have daughters, this can happen from 3 months to 6 yrs so be aware...Most times when peuberty hits it will go away on its own...They think the main cause is decrease in estrogen levels after the first few months out of the womb.  Older girls it can be from poor hygiene (not wiping properly).  Once peuberty happens the estrogen levels increase and it wont reoccur.

Make sure you are informed and DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LET YOUR DOC FORCE THE SKIN APART!  It will hurt your baby physically, and hurt you emotionally!

That is aweful. I am so sorry you and Elani went through this. I am so glad you let us know about this. My ped at my daughtrs four month check up informed me of something like this. She ask me to wipe the area with a little extra pressure and she will look at this at her next check up. I am so happy you told us about this. I hope you find a great doctor.
