    • About Me

I am almost 30 and am a singer/songwriter by trade. I am very spiritual. I live by Toltec shamanism (think maya, aztec), but also follow north and south american shamanism and im very interested in all religions. Im a trained Reiki and spiritual healer. I use crystals to help me with my symptoms and would be lost without them. I worked for some years as a special needs assistant working with children who had autism, aspergus, adhd/add, behavioural problems etc. Best job I ever had!

I love to read and im hooked on Carlos Castaneda, Don Miguil Ruiz, Lynn Andrews, Dan Millman, Paulo Coelho and Stephen King books. I recently took up knitting again and im addicted. Some of the yarns out there are so cool and funky and the patterns are bang up to date.

      Hi Danielle!
Just wanna say thanks for posting your story. I was diagnosed with VKH about 3 months ago and it's comforting to know that there are others out there. Although having this rare disease does make me feel somewhat special, lol.
      Regards,
      Lisa :-)

    • Close Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Ive had CFS for about 14yrs. I had to leave work due to CFS as I was simply no longer able to continue. I was working with kids who had learning difficulties and behavioral problems and was a job I loved. I am mostly housebound and often bedbound when the CFS is bad. I am currently hoping to do Open university and get a degree in criminal psychology. I have a lot of free time so I may as well use it!

      Treatments

      Lexapro Somewhat Helpful
Am using this for depression and it really helps to keep things balanced.
      Pain Management Clinic Somewhat Helpful
Im lucky to have a great pain consultant. My pain is managed now but it took a long time to find the right medications/methods for me.
      Reflexology Somewhat Helpful
Great for relaxation and soothing dis-ease. Only touches the tip of the ice burg.
      Reiki Somewhat Helpful
I found it gave me an energy top up for up to 2 days. It made me feel much more positive in myself. I am a Reiki healer myself.
    • Close Brain Injury

I got brain damage due to 6 bouts of non viral meningitis, where the lining of the brain and spinal cord swell up, over a 3 month period. Ive never known pain like it! The doc's believe I also had a bout of encephalitis causing the brain itself to swell. I now have terrible memory problems that im still learning to cope with. I also have no real sense of time. Im always living in the now and that makes planning things tricky. I would love to hear from anyone who can relate to my situation.

    • Open Chronic Pain

My pain stems from a bad fall I took a few years ago on a very wet floor. I was also involved in two car crashes some years back and im sure that hasnt helped matters very much. My partner at the time wouldnt take me to hospital, he was not a good guy (the violent type, and responsible for both crashes) so I just had to nurse myself!

      Treatments

      Epidural Injection Working / Worked
Unfortunatly for me the injection was not succesfull. I do know however that many people get good benefits from it. Its easier than popping pills all day.
      Heat Working / Worked
I use wheat bags that you microwave. They are great! brilliant when you have a flare up of pain!
      Marijuana Not Working
Did not help me. Wish it had but hey!
      Meditation Somewhat Helpful
Helps me to stay balanced which makes coping with the pain a little easier.
      Morphine Working / Worked
Im am using phentanyl patches that are morphine based. They work! Side effects: makes you drowsy and very fatigued depending on dosage.
      Neurontin Working / Worked
      Helps a great deal!
      TENS Working / Worked
Very good for pain that is not to severe.
    • Open Retinal Detachment

Both of my retinas were detaching due to a rare syndrome I have called VKH, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome. I had to have injections in the eyes and then long term steroids to save my sight. I also had to have a form of chemo therapy used for transplant patients to stop my body from rejecting the pigment in my eyes and causing retinal detachment. My sight has now be good for the last few years but I know it could happen again.

    • Open Meningitis

Due to a very rare genetic syndrome called VKH I have had meningitis. Part of its characteritics is severe non-viral Meningitis that repeats itself. I had Meningitis 6 times in 3 months. I also had an attack of encephalitis. The pain was horrific. Im aware that it could hit me again at any time. I ended up with brain damage as a result which I am still trying to cope with.

    • Open Multiple Personalities

I have a friend who I think has a multiple personality disorder. He kows something is wrong but he doesnt talk about it. He talks to himself if he thinks im not around. Sometimes he is gentle and funny and others cruel and hard and doesnt seem to know me very well!

    • Open Insomnia

Ive always been a night person out gigging with band & not getting home until silly'0'clock. Since I got ill with CFS sleeping has become some what challenging. I dont usually get to sleep until 4;30-5;00am. Thats on a good night. For some reason its when im at my most creative writing new songs, journaling etc. For someone with CFS it makes no sense. I have a rare syndrome called VKH but insomnia is not a symptom. I am ADD & wonder if that may be a factor? On too many meds to take more!
