My Dear Friends:
On July 4th, 1776, a remarkable collection of men gathered together in Philadelphia. On a hot, humid day, these men sought to dare to challenge what was then the most powerful Empire in the world. These men knew what they were doing was to become considered treason, and that their very lives and the lives perhaps even of their family were at stake. Yet they proceeded.
In history, I cannot think of a collection of people who were greater in every aspect of personhood. Here and there through history, there have been singular such men. Abraham Lincoln comes to mind. But the probability that such an elite group would be alive and come together in the same time and place is absolutely astounding.
Together they worked and hammered out The Declaration of Independence. They were not always in agreement. There were necessarily very strong personalities. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson did not see eye to eye on a number of points for example. But these men set their differences aside, knowing that their efforts would impact the people of the entire world, until the end of the world.
Their whole foundation for this Declaration was based upon their faith in God. God was central to all their premises. I believe that God intended for these men to gather together at this place and time, as God is the Director and Master of all things.
America has been through many trials since then: wars, pestilence, civil upheaval, economic disaster and so much more. The days we live in today seem terrible. Treachery is afoot on every point of the compass. Evil and darkness abide everywhere. So many have forgotten God as the Foundation of this country. We have lost our innocence long ago.
But, even in these days, all is not lost. God is always in control and He will destroy evil in the end. The mouths of they that speak lies shall be silenced. As Americans we must keep our faith, strengthen it, strive to be better every day, every minute. I know I fall short often. But I do love The Lord and I repent of my shortcomings.
Friends, I wish you the finest and safest of Holidays. May God Bless each and every one of you. and your families. I mean this especially for those of you who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces, or those of you who have a loved one serving this country somewhere around the globe. NEVER forget their sacrifices. They are what allows us to keep the freedom we have. God Bless them all, I say.
And I will add also to our friends around the globe on DS, you are our friends and allies. Your support and good intentions are greatly cherished. May this day also be one of joy for you.
God Bless all of you. Wally and Colleen, and family
