I am married with two teenagers and have had unipolar chronic major depression for 19 years. Anti-depressants have given little if no relief. Elementary teacher now on dissability due to depression.

Close Depression
Type: Clinical (Major) DepressionI was diagnosed with depression in 1989 and have had little relief for the past 19 years. I am unipolar with no manic episodes ever. I have tried many anti-depressants with the only one ever helping was prozac which stopped working for me after a few years. I am currently on disability due to my depression. I have been hospitalized twice for my depression.
Treatments
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Considering
- my doctor recommended this but it is not available in my area.
- Cymbalta Not Working
- did not help with depression but did help a little with my aches and pains.
- Effexor Not Working
- Terrible side effects like the brain zaps and nausea. Was on it for a month when I had to go into emergency surgery to put in a stint for a kidney stone that was too large pass. Anyway the urologist did not give me my effexor while in the hospital wich threw me into a cold turkey withdrawl which made me stay in the hospital for an extra week with terrible withdrawl.
- Electroconvulsive therapy Not Working
- I did not have this but my sister did and she did not see any helpful effects and she had memory loss.
- Lexapro Not Working
- Did not work at all for my depression and made my nonexistant sex drive even worse.
- Paxil Not Working
- Did not help my depression and make me very brain dead, foggy, and extremely tired.
- Prozac Not Working
- This causes great itching but helped a little with my depression for a few years then stopped working.
- Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
- counseling for about 10 years.
- Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
- At first I hid it from family but finally let them know.
- Wellbutrin Not Working
- Did not help depression and gave me weird anger fits.
- Writing Somewhat Helpful
- I dont have the energy to journal but have on and off in the past.
- Zoloft Not Working
- Made me brain dead, foggy, and extremely tired all the time. Did not help depression.
- Lithium Working / Worked
- Did nothing for my depression at all. No side effects.
- Lunesta Working / Worked
- Helped me get to sleep but hated the hung over feeling the next day.
- Selegiline Working / Worked
- I tried the new patch which I liked but it didnt help with my depression.
