Saw you post in an old discussion and thought we had some common ground. I have Fm as does my mother. We fear our middle daughter who's 15 is showing more and more symptoms of FM. Hope to see you around the board. I hope your son has found a coping method.

Close Fibromyalgia
My son was diagnosed at age 11. Started having symptoms at age 2. We went thru doc after doc saying everything from he was faking to that it was in his head before he was diagnosed. I finally found the answer myself and took him to a specialist and told him to test him. Scott is in pain all the time...no let up. Pain meds don't work. He can't attend school. He went on disability at age 12. Doc says he is getting worse and we don't know why. He just started Lyrica three weeks ago. We are hopeful
Treatments
- Cyclobenzaprine Somewhat Helpful
- Makes him sleep but doesn't really help the pain.
- Lyrica Too Soon to Tell
- makes him sleep too much and he isn't eating.
- Hydrocodone Somewhat Helpful
- Helps the pain sometimes and lets him sleep but doesnt really do much else
Close Migraine Headaches
I was diagnosed with migraines at 19. I am now 44. For the last 4 mos. migraines have gotten worse & worse. I know certain things will trigger headaches for me like MSG. But I don't know what is causing these new horrible headaches. For about 10 days during every month they are continuous. The doctor thinks they are hormone related. Migraine meds are not working and I am at the end of my rope. Also a new symptom for me is a phantom odor (smells like tomatoes burning). I also get the aura.
Treatments
- Amerge Considering
- Doc gave me this one but I haven't taken it because it specifically lists not to take it if you had a bad reaction to Imitrex and I did. I am afraid to take this one.
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- I avoid MSG and caffeine; this helps.
- Imitrex Not Working
- Caused serious rise in blood pressure can't take it.
- Midrin Somewhat Helpful
- Worked for a while but then became less helpful.
- Naproxen Not Working
- never worked in the slightest for me.
- Relpax Not Working
- side effects; blood pressure went too high with medication.
- Topamax Working / Worked
- I am on 100 mg in the am and 200 mg in the pm not sure if it's working yet.
- Zomig Somewhat Helpful
- worked for a while but as the headaches started getting worse the med didn't work.
- Frova Working / Worked
- didnt seem to help much but I might not have given it enough time to work.
- Oxycodone Working / Worked
- works better than anything else I have tried so far. I can take the med and it will let me sleep off an attack.
- Demerol Working / Worked
- I used to get demerol injections for the headaches when they didnt respond to midrin. These worked better than anything else I have ever had but the docs in Florida seem reluctant to give them. I lived in GA when I was getting them before.
- Toradol Working / Worked
- taken by injection and by mouth. Worked well but the doc I am seeing now doesnt want to use it.
Open Obesity
I have been overweight since childhood. The only time I was a normal weight was when I was 17 - 18 and in all honesty the only reason I got the weight off was because I was taking "speed" and other recreational drugs. After my first child was born the weight started piling on and I have gotten heavier and heavier over the years. I am now 44 years old. I have tried just about every diet over the years and nothing works for long. In school I suffered low self esteem and never thought much of me.
Treatments

- This works for me.
- Gastric Bypass Surgery Considering
- My family isn't behind me on this.
- Physical Exercise Too Soon to Tell
- I am having difficulty because I had two surgeries on my foot and can't get around well enough to really exercise.
- Swimming Working / Worked
- I love the water and this seems to help.
- Topamax Working / Worked
- THIS STUFF IS AMAZING
- Weight Watchers Not Working
- Never worked for long.
