My DH, who has always been very healthy, never caught even the flu, was dx'd with End-stage Cirrhosis 17 mos. ago. He immediately quit drinking. After a few months of meds, his drs. told us he is no longer 'end-stage', but will require the meds for the rest of his life. Now DH thinks he doesn't need the Lactulose, which keeps his ammonia levels down, because it inconveniences him (bathroom). His personality changes for the worse when he doesn't take it. Loses his temper over nothing, etc.
