Um. Ok, so I have a hiatal hernia and... it sucks. I feel bad for all of us who have one. I got diagnosed Nov '07. So, not too long ago. Aparently it was surprisingly bad/big hole for my size. Im about 5' and I'm pretty thin. *shrugs* I have been experiencing anywhere from mild discomfort to severe pain since about... well im not sure when exactly but I will say sometime in middle school. I went to the doctor once but she just told me to watch what i eat and then get back to her. but i didnt notice it being worse or better with different foods I ate. excersizing or anything didnt make it worse, or help. It just kinda hurt when ever it felt like I guess. I thought maybe it was just gas that wasnt coming out or something maybe. I had no idea. Anyay, I finally convinced my mom to take me to the doctor about mid summer '07 when I had to keep missing work because the pain was so bad. Did lots of tests and things, and then in November I had an upper gi or what ever and they found the hiatal hernia. I admit I was actually pretty frustrated that there wasnt anything to do about it (except maybe surgery but... in my opinion it just makes you worse in the long run, so, not for me.). Im on 40 mg of Omeprazole (substitute for prilosec) to help control acid from eating my esophagus. I've never had a problem with heartburn or anything though. At least pain related. The pain I have is not heart burn. I know what heart burn feels like and know when I have it -- Horrible!. Everything I read doesnt seem to sound like the pain that I have. My doctor said it was probably just from the stomach passing through the hiatus, which definitely makes sense, it just seems that no one else has pain from this? I've read briefly some people's descriptions on here, that it feels like its in their side like a sidestitch or like a fist is pushing on them and into their back, stuff like that. But I never really feel anything like that. So I dunno... but anyway. Yeah, so this is basics about my Hiatal Hernia...
