About Me
I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer July 2008. I had chemo and radiation beginning the end of August '08 and most of September. I had surgery to remove most of the esophagus end of Nov. '08. I'm doing really well - yippee! 9 months prior to my being told I had cancer, my husband had a stroke. So, we've had a lot to deal with the past couple of years! I love to laugh and have fun! Luckily, in spite of it all - we still are :-)

High Five
Hi Brenda:
thank you for ofering to be my friend, and for your kind and positive message. I see you everywhere in the support group site for esophageal cancer. You seem to have a gift for saying the "right" things! Congradulations to you in your fight with this disease, your strength and spirit declare themselves in your writing. Your prayers are much appreciated, and you will be in mine! I am going to the University of Colorado in Denver for a "second opinion" on the need for surgery for my cancer, but I have great faith in the evaluation I got at MD Anderson in Houston. I will have the surgery there! I thank you for the inforamtion you have already provided my through you messages on this site, and I look forward to communicating with you more. God Bless!
John

Close Stroke
My husband had a stroke in early October 2007. We're still working with therapists to help with standing balance, walking, and getting use of his right hand/arm back. Fortunately, so fortunately he has been able to communicate very well since his stroke. We're so lucky to have each other!!! We've been married 30 years :-)
Treatments
- Aggrenox Working / Worked
- Dr. had him on Aggrenox from the stroke time until he recovered from his carotid artery surgery. After that, they switiched him back to just 81mg aspirin. Baby aspirin equivalent.
- Aspirin Somewhat Helpful
- Since he was on 81mg aspirin before his stroke, we were surprised he had his stroke. His vascular Dr. suggested going back to just the aspirin after his successful carotid surgery.
Close GERD & Heartburn
Treatments
- Antacids Working / Worked
- I thought all the years I was popping Tums was helping, as it would instantly stop my indigestion. Now, I'm wondering if the pain I felt each time before popping the tums is what has me in this fix. Well, I don't blame tums. More than likely it is from my food choices and yo yo dieting for decades!
- Nexium Working / Worked
- Just got diagnosed with Barrett's from the endoscopy. Biopsy not in yet. Put on Nexium for it. Hopefully, it'll work!
Open Esophageal Cancer
Recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Have had 2 laser scopes and having a 3rd one Friday. Also, see Oncologist Friday for first time.
