I have been working a ton. MY folks health continues to decline. Frustrations all around but positive moments as well. Just got back from a ten …
I live in a small town and work for a non-profit. I love my job. I moved back home to get out of the city and also to help my folks stay in their home. That was 10 years ago. My folks health has declined greatly in the last year or so. My dad has fought three types of cancer and is now being watched for Parkinson's Disease. My Mom has bad arthritis in her feet. She also has bad shoulders and hands. She is in the early stages of dementia. We are having difficulty (She and I). Looking for clues.

Too much to do.........
I need a personal assistant.

I am swamped at work and finding it hard to find time to relax anywhere.............
I'm so glad the book helped some. It's a really tough disease to deal with for everyone involved. I know I struggle on a daily basis and then I feel guilty for losing my patience, etc. I'm here if you need anything. I'm not on as often as I used to be. Just too busy. But I do check in every few days. Oh, I am just as hard-headed as Mom (got that from her b/c Daddy was as patient as a saint-God love him). This causes issues. Did your Mom start on any meds. I've read that the sooner they start on the dementia meds the better. I also read it only slows the process about a year but I don't know if that was true or not. I guess we'll just find out as time passes. Try to take care of yourself too, Kim
OK
Hi
Just read your post and wanted to offer some ideas if that's okay? Books called The 36 Hour Day has a lot of info on dementia and Making the Connection Between Brain and Behavior - Coping with Parkinson's Disease was really helpful for me. My Mom was recently diagnosed with dementia (she has PD as well) and she was placed on the Exelon 4.6 mg. patch. She has been on it almost a month now and there is a definite, positive difference. Hoping some of this might be helpful. Kim
I have voluntarliy moved back to my hometown to help my folks stay in their home. It has been relativiely easy until recently. My dad has bad atheritis in his knees and has fought three different kinds of cancer, most recently in the bladder. He has recently started showing sign of Parkinson's. My Mom has very bad arthritis in her feet, shoulders and hands. Her Doctor has told us that she is in the early stages of dementia. I have just begun to research this.
I am finding it very difficult to watch the aging process. I live with my folks. Dad has parkingson's and mom is early dimential and near crippling arthritis. We are all very stubborn ( I get it from both sides of the family :-)). I

I moved back to my small hometown to help my folks stay in their home. I came back 10 years ago and their health was still very good. Now we are dealiing with cancer recovery, parkinson's, arthritis and demetia. The issues of siblings, power struggles, frustration are constant as is the feeling of gratitude at being able to care for them. strange mix.
