I am a native Southern Californian and moved to the East Coast in 2005. I am a practicing Roman Catholic, have a wonderful 21 year-old son who is living on his own, and a precious 12 year-old beagle. I have a BA in Philosophy and a Minor in Anthropology from UCLA and an AA in Fashion Merchandising from Fullerton College, CA. I plan to start my own consulting business in the next two years.

I was diagnosed with Graves in September of 2005 after a 3 year bout with Hashimotos. The Eye Disease quickly followed. I noticed puffiness in Nov. 2005. I did the eye radiation in Jan 2006 and it's hard to tell how much of an impact it made. I am now looking into surgery to correct my eye muscles. Every day is a struggle with Graves! I am here to get and to give support to others who are suffering with this disease.
I gained 30 pounds due to Graves Disease during 2006. My metabolism was extremely high and I was constantly hungry. As my T4 and T3 levels went down with 5 mg. of Methimazole a day, I was able to lose all of the weight. Pilates, adding more protein, and cutting out processed foods, sugar, and certain fruits out of my diet were critical as well.
My husband and I recently separated. He is seeing a therapist for narcissistic personality disorder. Since he started treatment six months ago, his behavior has gotten much worse, not better. I really need some space to get centered and figure out what I want to do. Even though separation is a good thing, it's still so painful...
