Four weeks ago I attended a county commissioner's meeting in opposition to a bill that would allow unlimited fox trapping in Guilford county. There had been a public heating in which the bill was supported 10:1 BECAUSE the trappers spoke but were unopposed. Why? Because no one knew. The meeting was only advertised for on conservative news channels (exactly the type of channel trappers would be watching and exactly the type animal rights people wouldn't). In light of the strong opposition at last month's meeting, the commissioner's decided to rehear the case and resend their original support.

The first time, when the trappers alone spoke, it became evident that they lied and manipulated things in their favor. Even at this meeting they told outright lies. They used a pathetic manipulative tactic by using coyote and fox interchangeably even though they are NOT the same animal and do NOT pose the same threat.

I myself personally emailed all 11 commissioners and felt proud when my email was quoted at tonight's hearing. When all was said and done, the trappers lost their case. Once their lies had someone to shoot them down, they didn't stand a chance! So we won! No fox trapping in Guilford County! People CAN make a difference.
