I am a dad of 3 young children, my youngest, 7 has Aspergers Syndrome. My eldest is a 11yo daughter who suffers from P-TSD. We found out last September that a cousin had sexually abused her between 2-8. I was guided to this site to hopefully gain some knowledge on how best to help her handle the trauma she now suffers.

Close Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
I have a daughter who suffers from PTSD, part of this condition includes lying, stealing and being generally disobedient, my eldest son is also prone to copying such behaviour.
Treatments
- Child Time-out Working / Worked
- Five minute time out breaks in their respective rooms helps to a degree. The real problem is overcoming their boredom. What we have begun to employ with both of them recently is for them to think TWICE before reacting in any given negative situation. It is too early at this stage to see the benefits, but I am certain in time they will adopt such an approach successfully. We will continue to persevere in the meantime.
Close Codependency
My partner has a gambling addiction. Without being aware of it codependency has been a part of our lives for approximately 9 years now.
Open Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
My 10yo daughter was sexually abused between the ages of 3-8. She suffers from PTSD as a result. I have done some research into the condition and properly understand the condition to be that of illogical or crazy thinking, that is not to say however that the individual is crazy, only the thought processes associated with the trauma/stress suffered. I also understand that we all suffer the condition in mild forms so I can relate to sufferers in this way also.
Treatments
- Rape Counseling Working / Worked
- I consult a lot with my daughters councellor, and she has given me a book to read titled, BOUNDARIES... I have found it very enlightening, and would almost go so far as to say that it is a bible on the condition.
- Reading Working / Worked
- Reading the book BOUNDARIES, very enlightening.
Open Healthy Relationships
Having endured a painful seperation over the past 16-months, I have taken a fair bit of time to look back at this, and past relationships in a positive way. Carrying unresolved past issues into a relation is a very dangerous thing to do, and I have made a habit it seems of meeting this type of partner.
Treatments
- Patience Working / Worked
- Becoming more accepting of my partners differences, and allowing her to resolve her hang ups, rather than becoming involved in them myself.
Open Gambling Addiction & Recovery
Although a gambler myself in the past I am more interested in finding out a bit more of the addictive nature of the condition because my gambling never created turmoil in my life. My ex partner though is a different story though altogether.
Treatments
- Distancing Working / Worked
- I went cold turkey for two years successfully from gambling on horse racing. I have a gamble now but I only bet when I can afford to lose, I therefore rarely gamble at all. My ex partner though has an addiction, and whilst I had a problem with my gambling I do not believe I was addicted to it, hence my ability to walk away from it as easily as I did when I made the choice to do so.
