    • About Me

I'm a gay girl, age 16, in high school. I prefer the term gay over the term lesbian because gay sounds more cheerful. I hate English class (because of the writing parts) I like math and science. I have so many health problems that I won't bother talking about them here. Each problem has a description in its support group. People have called me bubble girl (wonder why?).

Well, I exercise sporadically. And, once school starts, I'll hopefully be able to force myself to exercise on a schedule. High school is very …

    • Close Depression - Teen

You know what, if I want to talk about my depression, I'll talk about in the forums. Putting my backstory up here just feels whiny.

      Treatments

      Art Somewhat Helpful
Sometimes drawing is a good escape. I get away from people. I didn't always use to like drawing, but I do enjoy being able to create something that I feel turns out fairly well. Plus, I don't have to show it to anyone if I don't like it. It's completely free will.
      Music Working / Worked
I love playing the piano. It always makes me a little happier. Sometimes I like singing, but I'm pretty shy about singing in front of other people, or even within earshot. I really like listening to my MP3 player as well.
      Pets Not Working
None of the pets in my house really like me that much. Plus, I'm allergic to all of them.
      Positive Thinking Somewhat Helpful
Phh. Never works for very long. It can help for a few hours, or it can help in a situation where I don't have people around making me miserable, but that's rare.
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
Helpful only when I see someone frequently, and when the person I see let's me actually say what's on my mind instead of lecturing.
Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
My friends do support me a lot. They're like an escape to happyland. But really, I think my family would be called antisupport.
      Talking Considering
I should try talking, but I'm a bottler. I bottle all my feelings. So no. I don't talk.
      Zoloft Not Working
I stoped taking it because not only was it doing nothing psychologically, but it was also giving me horrible side effects with my stomach.
    • Close Food Allergies
      Type of allergy: Other Foods

The list of my allergies, from most to least severe is: shellfish, cod, penicillin, yellow dye 5 & 6, coke syrup, nexium, lentils, corn. I have nothing else to say on the topic.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
Avoiding the things I'm allergic to is a pretty good idea. The most difficult places to do so are in restaurants or in places where the food isn't labeled or trustworthy.
      EpiPen Too Soon to Tell
      I've never used it.
      Benadryl Working / Worked
I use benadryl for immediate reactions.
    • Open Environmental Allergies
      Type of allergy: Other

I'm allergic to dust, mold, cats, dogs, feathers, grass, ragweed, and some trees. I've always been allergic to dust, and other things have developed in the past two years or three years.

      Treatments

      Allergy Shots Somewhat Helpful
So far they have reduced the general amount of allergy induced asthma I have, decreased the number of yearly sinus infections I get, and decreased the overall severity of my allergies.
      Nasal Irrigation Working / Worked
It has helped when I get colds or sinus infections.
      Singulair Working / Worked
Also very helpful. No side effects so far as I know.
      Sudafed Working / Worked
I've only used this once or twice when I've had a bad cold. It helps with congestion, but I don't use it regularly.
    • Open Asthma
      Type: Childhood Asthma

I have asthma that is induced by allergies or illness but it can be worsened severely by exercise and or a change from a warm temperature to a very cold one.

      Treatments

      Advair Working / Worked
It helps to prevent attacks effectively.
      Albuterol Working / Worked
Very useful as an emergency inhaler. It can also be used in a nebulizer, which is good for a really bad attack.
      Immunotherapy Working / Worked
Yeah, it's working so far. When you get on a higher vile, there may be side effects (there were for me) but I think it depends on the person. There worst I had was breaking out in hives all over my face.
      Singulair Working / Worked
This helps to control the allergies that are a partial cause of the asthma. No side effects. It's very helpful.
    • Open Lactose Intolerance

I discovered I was lactose intolerant when I was in fourth grade.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
I never drink pure milk. It's worked so far.
      Lactaid Not Working
It always upset my stomach. So I stopped drinking it. I'm drinking soy milk now.
    • Open GERD & Heartburn

Diagnosed in fourth grade, same time as the lactose intolerance. Never really dealt with until about 2 years ago.

      Treatments

      Aciphex Working / Worked
It seems to be working for the most part. My dosage is a little higher than usual (twice per day).
      Antacids Working / Worked
If all else fails and I'm left with horrible pain at night, I head Mylanta and or Pepto Bismol. They tend to work.
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
I try not to have a lot of orange juice, tomatoes, or other acidic things. It tends to work. I can have them in small doses, but not a lot or I get sick.
      Nexium Not Working
      I'm probably allergic. No good.
      Pepto-Bismol Working / Worked
Helps somewhat, usually take with Mylanta when I'm in severe pain.
      Prevacid Not Working
I took this for a year or two but I had a lot of problems still with my stomach so I switched to Nexium.
Raising Bed Position Working / Worked
Sometimes works. But I roll a lot.
    • Open Gay & Lesbian Teens

I came out to my family just this summer. I'm still pretty in the closet and nervous though. I haven't talked to any of my friends, not even my best.

    • Open Anxiety

      Dunno when it started.

      Treatments

      Breathing Exercises Somewhat Helpful
If I'm really upset, sometimes counting when I breathe, or forcing my muscles to relax when I breathe out helps. Not always, but sometimes.
      Positive Thinking Somewhat Helpful
Sometimes works. Most of the time, not. If I'm trying to get myself to do something simple that I'm freaking out about positive thoughts help. Complex situations are harder to solve.
      Zoloft Not Working
Did not work, stopped taking it because of the side effects.
