    • About Me

I am an Emergency doctor; married, 2 young children. I have Hypermobile ED. I am increasingly having prblems, incloding severe muscle spasm, knee pain a posterior right knee dislocation. I have dislocated many joints, but that was indescribly painful and and impeding my life, work, sleep. I recently moved to DenmarK. I am having a hard time getting competent care here (in the land of Dr. Ehlers!). I have children 4 and 6 who are affected, and I am trying to find competent care / education for them as well.

    • Close Hypermobile Syndrome

As a child I was completely unaware I had anything other than my nickname was "Gumby Girl)". My siblings and, 46 years old, mmother of two. I am an Emergency doctor presently in Denmark. In my midthirties I was diagnosed with Hypermobile EDS ( type 3 ). Hypermobile joints, somewhat flexbile skin, no/ little atrophic scarring, increasingly common and severe large and small joint dislocations, recurrences, subluxation. One ruptured annular ligament. Very mobile cervical spine. Mitral v. prolapse,

      Treatments

      Ibuprofen Somewhat Helpful
Ibuprofen is excellent unless I has a severe injurt or spaasm. Its of no help to spasm. It is excellent for a usual get me through the daily joint pain. I take 600 mg TID with water.
      Glucosamine/Chondroitin Too Soon to Tell
hard to tell I keep taking it
      Walking Working / Worked
muscle strength essential for stability. Also stretching running when I can have a meniscus tear after a posterior right knee dislocation waiting for an orthopaedic surgeon.
    • Close Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

EDS classical Diagnosed at OHSU in 1997 by Dr. Frances Stohr. I was as tudent at OHSU at the time. I was initially diagnosed as HED, but as time has marched on, Classical appears to be more accurate due to my history of poor wound heaking, wound dehiscence, bruising, bladder prolapse, mitral valve prolapse, difficulty with skin sutures, cigarette paper skin, and very soft mildly stretchy skin. I am also quite hypermobile. I have 2 children, aslo very hypermobile.
