Hi Sue Aww ty x It's great to hear of people who are at the end of the tunnel. I'm being positive most of the time but after th clot I had cellulitis then pneumonia. I'm tired of fighting and just being a sulky brat who wants to stamp her foot lol. Thank you so much for your kind words :o) Karen x

Thanks for your comment on my "lifer" question. Seems like we have something in common, both being "2 time PE girls" with prothrombin factor II mutation. Stinks that we are dealing with this, but good to know be alone!

    • Close Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

November 2004 I had blood clot in suferficial vein in left arm - believed to be from mosquito bite - went to bi-lateral multiple PE. 3 months warfarin then given the all clear. Suddenly July 07 I had dvt after not being well, I thought through hypothyroidism - not treated initially hosp believed it was too low in calf to be dvt - progressed again to multiple bi-lateral PE. I am now on warfarin for life. I am trying to resume 'normal' life and find real comfort from others in the same position.

      Treatments

      Coumadin Working / Worked
Originally INR good then when I resumed activity dropped to 1.7 - 1.8 for a period of 5 weeks - grrr. Now taking 5.5 daily
      Heparin Working / Worked
Emergency admission to hosp multiple bilateral PE's heparin worked
    • Close Pulmonary Embolism

I had DVT + multiple pulmonary emboli July 07, this was a second occurence - 3 years previously I had a clot in my arm that also resulted in multiple pulmonary emboli!!! Originally they thought is was rare one off occurence I was on warfarin for 3 months and had thrombophilia test - negative!! 3 years later the second episode and I'm on warfarin for life - this time prothrombin factor II mutation (don't know how it was missed 1st time round it's genetic).

      Treatments

      Heparin Working / Worked
administered in hospital until INR therapeutic
      Coumadin Working / Worked
Reasonably stable but recently INR too high.... there is an interaction with thyroid meds hair seemed to fall out originally but seems to have stopped. Need it lifelong so hope it continues to work
      Synthroid Working / Worked
Hypothyroid discovered 1 year after clot in arm!!! Eltroxin seems better than the some of the earlier meds I was prescribed
    • Open Menopause

49 (just)the big birthday is looming... gosh where to start. Over the last 3 - 4 years I have had dvt in arm then multiples emboli in lungs - then discovered hypothyroid (rollercoaster) then my mum died suddenly. In the year after I was so ill but didn't know if it was menopause, bereavement or thyroid... Then 2nd DVT in leg and more PE's and now lifelong warfarin. A very difficult journey but I'm keen to try and get back to better health. Due to clots (I have presiposition) no HRT for me!!

    • Open Hypothyroidism

Diagnosed 3 years ago after many visits to GP when it wasn't picked up.... struggled to get well - then series of bereavement, DVT, menopause symptoms all getting muddled - has been a long journey to feel better

      Treatments

      Synthroid Working / Worked
Insisted on eltroxin as experience with generic was variable - seems to work 100 mg daily
