Two day update...3 miles yesterday and 3 today.Happy New Year
I'm currently attending the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference in San Francisco and wanted to report on some very exciting news that possibly some of you have already heard. In the November issue of Pediatrics (section of AAP Clinical Reports), there will be an extensive outline/model to aid pediatricians in diagnosing and then caring for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs)...with the point of identifying children at an earlier age in order to get them in early intervention and appropriate therapeutic services.
I encourage parents to discuss further with your pediatricians.

Hello, You don't know me, but I have a 4-year-old son with autism, and this is wonderful news! I fought since he was 18-months-old to get a diagnosis, and every single pediatrician I took him to ignored me. When he wasn't making any attempts at communication by the age of 4, they finally gave me the referral for a neurodevelopemental pediatrician. He was diagnosed a week after his 4th birthday.
I hope this helps every parent out there who has the same concerns that I had. :-)
Hope you have a great weekend!

I believe this is why Hayden was diagnosed as young as he was. He was 8 months old and had a lot of red flags for Autism. The drawback is that the Knights of Columbus will not see him until he is 18 months old. Early diagnosis is good but for parents or guardians like us an early diagnosis and referal is no good if no one will see them for almost a year.
He is 10 months now and in O.T, P.T., D.T and the Neurologist recommended Speech Therapy for him and it will be started next month.
I am very grateful for him receiving services at such a young age and hope that the early intervention will help him develop to his full potential.
