I'm still smirking at this one. I had the day off today and so the family and I went to our local mall to do a little shopping. We were about an hour and a half into it when the kids starting hammering me to take them for the pretzel I apparently agreed to (funny thing, never even remember them asking me in the first place). But with them bouncing off the walls and my wife still finishing things up on her end (and no, not looking to put the blame on her as I went first today), I said I'd take the 3 of them to the pretzel stand. Pretty funny, walked the entire mall until we finally found it and right before we ordered, I realized I had no cash...only the credit card. Now I really don't like using the credit card for small purchases (don't ask me why, just one of those quirky things) and might have expressed my disappointment a bit too loud as my 7 year old daughter (carrying a purse and an old wallet of mine) said "no problem, daddy. I have money." After doing a double take, she told me she had $15 (the Tooth Fairy has been a frequent visitor this year) and again, would be happy to loan me some money.
So I borrowed $5 and bought the pretzels. My son (nearly 5) witnessed the whole thing and still thanked me for the pretzel...which I found quite humorous. But my question to those with older children, does it really happen this fast?

it sure does!!!!!!!!! I have a 13 year old who can sit on cash he makes for months. He may get a buck or two here or there for doing small jobs around the house and around the neighborhood and slowly nickeling and diming me for lunch money etc. In July he went to camp with the Boy Scouts. As I was pulling out cash to give him as spending money, he kindly alerted me that "my petty cash wasn't needed." He managed to save 300 bucks over the last 10 months for spending at camp....

congratulations to your brother, as well, and to your little one's pink room (you'll adjust? :-)
your family must be proud of everyone's success...and so nice that in the midst of your success you take such a wonderful amount of time to give back.

Only if you are blessed. My sons are much older and they loan me cash. But I always respect them and make sure I pay them back!

I always have to scratch my head when my daughter says, 'well i have money" hmmm... She doesn't get an allowance.. hmm... lol.. but she does save every single penny - whether it's from a sidewalk, or for when she does help out on extra chores and earns a few dollars. Or when I give her money for gifts on a field trip, and she buys the cheapest things and hides the rest.. LOL.
I have to also keep a note of when I owe her money and when I pay her back. This rarely happens, since i usually have cash as well, however, when it does, I forget that I pay her back and end up paying her back three or four times!!!!

you know when your kids are good that means you are doing right by them. my nephew is also very generous with his money. my sil lost her wedding ring and he offered to buy her a new one (little does he know he doesnt have enough money) but its so sweet.

Your children sound wonderful.

The first rule my parents told me that I taught them, was that children never stop surprising you. Mine have sure lived up to the bill!

...Oh! I almost forgot....
What sort of intrest rate did you get for this loan? (being family and all..)
AtticusFinch
Oh yeah, just wait till your baby has a baby and all at once you look and she is a married grown woman with a son and you watch in wonder as she/he becomes a parent and realize you did a pretty good job because she is a better parent than even you were! And you know your grandchildren will be better at it than your children. It is totally wild to watch it unfold and happen.

Something you said caught my eye right from the start. I have only had two Doctors that trated me as thou I had a brain. They didn't talk down to me, they also didn't use terms that the general public wouln't understand. That's what impressed the heck out of me. You see, my father was a surgyn (I can't spell) and I loved the way he treated people. His practice in the 70's made him a very special person. He was the second man to do a tooth implant in he US and he did i 25 years before The ADA said that iy could be done. I know things have cchanged, he would meet a patient down t his office at 3:00am if they were in pain. I have some qusrions for you but honestly I need to lay down. God Bess You Peggy
