Back on the wagon... Mood
Thursday, May 28, 2009 | A General Update story

Hi ladies!

I'm sorry I've been MIA. I was going through a funk for a while. After a recent vacation (photos posted on my Facebook), which was fabulous, I'm feeling more like myself and ready to go at it again.

AF arrived last night. (Yuck!) So, the "take a vacation and it will happen," trick did not work for me (I was not holding my breath!). I had my baseline u/s today and everything went well. My antral count was a bit low, in my opinion, but I guess it's about average for me (6-7 on right; 3 on left). My RE does not have a big concern about my egg reserve, but admits that I might have a "slight diminish" in reserve. Not very encouraged to hear this at the young age of 32. I digress...

For this cycle, we are planning to increase my stims A LOT. My last IUI, I only had one mature follicle. I should know my dosage/protocol tomorrow and start stims this weekend. The treatment plan (OI, IUI, IVF) will be determined based on my response. We're hoping for enough follicles to try a 5th IUI. On the other hand, if I stimulate enough for an IVF, we may go that route.

The last time we met with the RE, he suggested that we add DHEA. Anyone have any experience with this? From what I understand, the jury is still out on whether or not it actually helps conception. But, at this point, if it doesn't hurt, I'm willing to give it a try.

I am so happy for my friends who have already become mothers, as well as those who are well on their way to motherhood. And, still very hopeful for those of us who continue on this journey. Don't give up, OUR TIME WILL COME!!! Statistically speaking, it has to happen sooner OR later, right?

I'll keep you posted.

Take care!

Alli

It is good to have you back! I've missed you. I just recently got back in the "game" and it brought mixed emotions...but this is the game we play, right? We will be mothers! I haven't heard about DHEA but I am with you, I'll try almost anything at this point! Thinking of you and hoping for lots of follies!!!!

Hi lady! I am praying for lots and lots of follies! If you google DHEA and infertility you will find lots of articles. I was looking into last year, what I found was some women who are either older or like me and have a higher FSH have seen better egg quality and quantity after taking at least 3 months of the supplement. It is a male hormone if I remember right.. My doctor wouldn't put me on it, just because he said there wasn't enought studies but I know when I did my research there were lots of infertility clinics using it. I say go for it if you doctor will do it.. I don't think it can hurt a thing!

You are so right honey.. it will happen for you.. just a matter of time. Can't wait to see your updates!

Hey Allison! So glad that you had a great vacation saw your pic's on FB looks like you had a wonderful time. My RE and I just spoke about the DHEA option as well, he wants me to take it for 3 months 25 mg 3 times a day. They response on the studies they have done with women with a lower antral follicle count under 10 apparently have a very good response to IVF with this drug. I just know we are going to be Mothers very soon!!! Keep me posted on your cycle. :)

Glad to hear you're back! I'm not on FB so I'll have to take your word that your vacation was awesome :)
As far as DHEA, our CCRM doc said that some women have improved response, but not really better egg quality on it. She wouldn't put me on it because my E2 always goes so high anyway. She also said it is a good idea to measure your endogenous levels first and see if you are low or not before replacing it. Just something to consider. It does have side effects b/c it is more of a male hormone. Can't wait to read your progress!
