    • About Me

I am a full time online student and divorced parent of a 6 year old boy and 10 year old girl. I struggle with chronic headaches and depression, which has also led to using prescription painkillers. I have joined the depression support group and the prescription drug group. I am not sure which one I need the most, but anything might help. Depression makes everything pretty dismal.

    • Interests

I love music; listening to it, esp while driving or cleaning, and I play a little guitar and piano. I love being outside in the summer, and I have a firepit in my rural backyard. I love going to Lake Superior every summer and hanging out on the beach, doing puzzles and drinking coffee in my motel room with my kids. I have lots and lots of pets.

    • Close Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

I have fought depression since very young. I have been in and out of therapy and on many different antidepressants in my lifetime; some worked very well for a number of years, some not at all. For years I have done fairly well, for other years I have done very poorly. Since a divorce 3 years ago the depression has gotten much much worse. I am having a hard time finding anyting to help. I am 40 years old, a single mom of 2, and a full time student.

      Treatments

      Celexa Working / Worked
Worked great for years, then stopped working
      Cymbalta Somewhat Helpful
I dont remember much...worked briefly if at all
      Effexor Not Working
Tried for a year...never really worked
      Elavil Not Working
      gave me heart palpitations
      Lexapro Working / Worked
I am on it now..it is working to a point but not really well
      Meditation Not Working
haven't done it in years, hard to relax
      Paxil Working / Worked
It worked great, almost manic but had to increase the dose fast and then quit working
      Prozac Somewhat Helpful
      did not work that much
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
I am going and sometimes it helps me with insights but overall doesn't do anyting major to help
Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
it helps to know they care and need me when im suicidal but theres only so much they can do
      Writing Working / Worked
its a good way to blow off steam and sometimes figure out whats buggin u
      Clonazepam Working / Worked
so far it doesnt do too much. sedatives tend to make me sleep and dont help the depression. I take it for anxiety but its bad for the depression so far
      Doxepin Working / Worked
years ago...somewhat helpful. very bad dry mouth
      Xanax Working / Worked
makes me sleep brings me down w the depression
      Physical Exercise Working / Worked
helps me feel in control of my body and life
      Hydrocodone Working / Worked
I took it for headaches but it had the side effect of curing the anxiety and when taken w my lexapro it really acted as an antidepressant
    • Open Migraine Headaches

I have had migraines since childhood, and they are genetic; my father and siblings have them. The duration, frequency, and severity has changed over my lifetime. Unfortunately, I am currently in a phase that involves the most painful, most frequent (often once a week) and longest lasting headaches of my life. They sometimes last 4 days. I also get almost daily tension headaches, which sometimes turn into migraines. I have noticed that changes in my sleep or eating patterns can trigger them.

      Treatments

      Maxalt Working / Worked
This is my first defense against my migraines. I take one as soon as I know I am getting one or have one. I usually take a second one an hour or two later. I would say that 80% of the time, this gets rid of the headaches, but the other 20% I have to resort to pain meds.
      Relpax Working / Worked
This worked most of the time to stop the headaches but I stopped taking it because it was not on my list of approved meds. Now I take Maxalt, which works about the same for me.
      Tylenol Not Working
This is just not strong enough for the level of pain in a migraine. If I have nothing else, I will take tylenol pm along with advil and try to sleep it off. It's better than nothing.
      Tramadol Somewhat Helpful
This worked better than advil andor tylenol but didnt work very well I was still in pain after the maximum recommended dose prescribed by my doc of 100mg.
      Hydrocodone Working / Worked
This is the only surefire relief for my migraines but of course not recommended by most docs because of its potential to be abused. If used often it does cause physical dependence and has to be weaned off slowly. Also you have to watch the amount of tylenol you take on a long term basis in any form including that in hydrocodone. I used to have a pain clinic that custom mixed hydrocodone with low levels of tylenol for safety so I was able to take it on a long term basis they were shut down
