Close Breakups & Divorce
I've been divorced close to 5 years after being married 20 years. I've worked hard to get my life and myself "back in order" and I thought this would be a good place to share ideas, single-parenting advice, etc.
Treatments
- Couples Counseling Not Working
- My ex didn't stick with it.
- Music Somewhat Helpful
- Listening to music soothes me.
- Pets Working / Worked
- My dog loves me all the time!
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- It helped me consider all my options and helped me see I needed a divorce. It has since helped me through the aftereffects of the divorce.
- Reading Somewhat Helpful
- There are many books out there which are good.
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- Friends have been great!
- Talking Working / Worked
- Time Working / Worked
Close Single Parenting
I am the single parent of a 17-year-old son. He was adopted at birth and is having typical teenage problems as well as rejection feelings from his father who has been hardly involved since he and I divorced almost 5 years ago.
Open Parenting Teenagers (12-18)
My son is 17 and has had a rough year, getting in and out of trouble. Poor grades, started smoking occasionally, disrespectful and now says he is an atheist.
Treatments
- Patience Somewhat Helpful
- But my patience is wearing thin.
- Psychotherapy Not Working
- He refuses to work on his issues.
Open Lupus
My son, who will be 18 in June, was diagnosed with lupus in 2002. It severely damaged his kidneys. He went into remission but now it seems it is flaring up and bothering his joints. I think it's due to him not faithfully taking his meds.
Treatments
- Cellcept Working / Worked
- has worked well
- Medrol Working / Worked
- had 6 treatments in IV right after diagnosis
- Plaquenil Working / Worked
- has really helped
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- He was on it for a couple of years after his diagnosis and it helped but of course he gained weight on it
