"Happy Thanksgiving!"

My body is falling apart.. :) Mood
Wednesday, October 1, 2008 | A Breaking News story

Well girls.. went back to the doctor today concerning my high blood pressure and I am now officilaly on medicine.  When I first got there its was 180/125.. yeah that is right.. Holy Shit! High blood pressure runs in my family (father, grandfather, grandmother and so on), so it is most likely inherited, but they tooks some blood today to check my thyroid and I have to go get a sonogram tomorrow to check my kidneys.  Something about two arteries going into the kidneys could be blocked causing my blood pressure issues.

So anyway, today she put me on a pill to at least start to get it down.  I really don't want to have to take medicine for the rest of my life, like my father, but I have a strong suspicion I am headed on that path.  Ironically she put me on medicine that was safe with pregnancy in case I change my mind.. :)

What next, can't get pregnant, getting fat, knees are going out and now I have high blood pressure.  Getting old sucks!!!!

Awwhhh...I'm sorry Shannon! Yes, that pressure is high, but did she say anything about the "white coat effect"? Basically, it can be artifically high when you are nervous/anxious in the MD office. I know being on pressure meds makes you feel old, but I'm so glad you are tackling this now, instead of later. I hope everything is okay with your kidneys...please post the result when you get it! Do they think your injectables have anything to do with this? Imbalanced hormones could certainly be causing this!!!!

I forgot to add.. I monitor it at home because of my family history.. For the last 5 days it is been averaging 150/105 or something in that range.. so they originally thought I had white coat, but now it seems to be doing it at home also..

I am sorry too, that does suck but at least they have found out now so it can be controlled for the future (especially if you do become pregnant). My dad has diabetes (our family is riddled with it)so I am sure I will have that to look forward to in the future. I actually have low blood pressure which was a real problem after my ER, I couldn't get out of the chair to go home as I was too dizzy and felt sick. I hope your other tests come back ok as well. Medical things are definitely not much fun, that's for sure. Hopefully they will be able to get to the bottom of things soon and you will be all fixed up. Please take care of yourself, all my love xxx

Im so sorry hon but thankfully this is something that can be controlled with medication. If only IF was that easy! Seriously though, I hope all your tests come back okay. I think of you all the time and hope you are doing well. xoxo

Hey just think on the bright side, you don't need depends, or a walker, or drink your food from a straw, and you don't eat dinner at 4:30pm. Your doing alright...lol!!!
But seriously take it easy and get into a yoga class the hot yoga is amazing and really good for you plus you sweat the weight off. :)

I'm glad they're checking the kidneys. The kidneys have a lot do to with blood pressure regulation--plus they're blood hogs, so if they think they're not getting enough (if something called renal artery stenosis is happening) they react by releasing hormones that raise the blood pressure. The good news is they can fix it and restores normal BP--without having to necessarily take meds. I hope they figure it out--hang in there!

Awwwh Shannon, when it rains it pours huh! But its better that you get all checked out now and you can get it all under control. Next thing you know, you’ll be feeling better, lose the weight easier and feel confident with you new found health. Ready to take on the world! I do know how you feel, I have high cholesterol in my family and should be monitoring but don’t really because I’m scare it’ll be high and I can’t DO anything about it at this point so I’m living in “ignorance”. Hang in there!

Getting old does suck! I take (and have taken) BP meds for years. They thought I had the white coat syndrome too but no such luck. I rememeber years ago asking if I could be on meds that were safe during pregnancy...apparently there was no rush :) They actually just lowered my dosage (I credit acupuncture!) I hope that the rest of the tests come back clear! Thinking of you!

Shannon, sorry to hear this, but I think all the stress is what does it. You have been through so much and the stress has been overwhelming. I hope that your BP comes down and that its all due to stress and nothing more. I had to be put on something for my BP as well when I was taking all the fertility drugs, they said it was probably a combination of STRESS and the drugs. I will be praying for you that all your tests are negative. Hang in there!
