    • About Me

I am a data analyst for a health insurance company. White male in my early thirties. I am an artist and a writer as well and hope to quit the 9-5 assuming I can ever completely get a handle on anxiety and panic which I know I can and will. I honestly believe it is all in my control and need a point in the right direction to find it within myself to let go of fear and be who I am meant to be.

      Mood August 24, 2008 4:05pm

I've dealt with panic disorder and anxiety (which go hand in hand) for about 14 years now. It first hit me when I was 18 and I've had periods …

    • Close Panic Attacks

      Treatments

      Ativan Working / Worked
Works when having a panic attach however I have gone through many panic attacks without using it so I understand that all of this can and should, in my case, be something down without medication.
      Patience Working / Worked
Panic disorder is primarily brought about my the fear of the actuality of fear. Thinking something will happen and fighting against it rather then allowing to happen as a natural reaction.
      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
This may be the best therapy but the basis for it really needs to be brought about with the help of a professional therapist. The root of the anxiety has to be dealt with first.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
I was working with a therapist who specialized in panic disorder for about 10 months until she relocated. It was a great experience but looking back I realize that I truly did not open up completely to allow myself the healing that I feel I am willing to allow myself to do now.
    • Close Migraine Headaches

My Migraines started about 3 years ago. They are not common as they are not debilitating pain but are more numbing where I lost the sensation of feeling in part of my body along with sight issues that in-frequently include shimmering lights that run from one eye, left to right , then to the other that are preceded by loss of focus. The numbness or loss of sensation include the inability to feel swallowing along with not feeling myself breathe and simply the loss of touch.

      Treatments

      Acupuncture Working / Worked
I've been going for about 2 months but recently had a mild panic attack while at an appointment. I plan to continue to go as it along with Qi Gong has helped.
      Aspirin Working / Worked
Aspirin has been the best thing that has worked for me but it only seems to work about 60-70% of the time. I usually only take one aspirin at a time when I start to feel a possible migraine with is daily. I rarely if ever take more then 2 aspirin a day.
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Not Working
I was told by my neurologist that it makes no difference what I eat. I thought it was odd but whatever. I would be open to suggestions on what trigger foods to avoid or what foods to make part of my diet.
      Caffeine Too Soon to Tell
I've been drinking coffee regularly every day for about 13 years so who knows what effect it plays. I was told to take an aspirin and drink a cup of coffee if I felt a migraine coming on from a previous neurologist. Whatever.
    • Open Anxiety

I have suffered from some form of Anxiety for about 13 years now.

      Breathing Exercises Somewhat Helpful
Breathing techniques work to a degree but I tend to focus too much on the breathing which tends to lead towards too much focus on my breathing and/or the possibility of not breathing if that makes sense.
      Breathwork Working / Worked
Breathing techniques work to a degree but I tend to focus too much on the breathing which tends to lead towards too much focus on my breathing and/or the possibility of not breathing if that makes sense.
      Meditation Considering
Mediation is something fairly difficult for me to get into because of my short attention span and lack of focus.
      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
This may be the best therapy but the basis for it really needs to be brought about with the help of a professional therapist. The root of the anxiety has to be dealt with first.
