Floor nurse, Medical/surgical floor. wife, mother. back pain for approx ten years. Ruptured discs' - L four, L five, and s one two years ago. Have been getting kenalog epidural injections since that time.

Welcome. I'm a nurse too. I have Lupus, but first I had a really bad back injury lifting a patient. The bad back turned into a dx of Rheumatoid Arthritis, and then Lupus. I think the back injury gave me the autoimmune problems?? I worked in pain for 10 years, and then just couldn't when the exhaustion factor took over. I worked in Nursing homes for 12 years and then for Hospice 6 months ,then I crashed. I hope you can keep working.

HI i have herniated disc at L4-L5 and SI i have had 2 esi treatments no relief and i had reactions to the steroid so they had to stop them i now am going to go to a sergeon to see what can be done i am in pain all the time i cannot work i have not worked in 6months because i cant stand or walk for very long .so i really know what u r going thru i hope you can get better to i wish you health and happiness

ruptured discs: L4, L5, S1. Epidural injections of kenalog for the last two years. Pain to bilateral hips, buttocks, groin, feet. numbness to inner heels with decreased sensation to lateral lower legs. Starting process of seeking out ortho. doc that does microdiscectomy for an evaluation. Taking , Ultracet, Pamalor an antidepressant used to block pain receptors. And the occasional Lidoderm patch.
Treatments
- Epidural Injection Working / Worked
- Helps for about 3 months. Then wears of in one day. Pain comes back full force.
- Aqua Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- strengthens core muscles, supporting back.
- Ultram Working / Worked
- Reduces pain and dosent make me foggy or tired.
- Pamelor Working / Worked
- off lable use, Helps block pain receptors. Original use was antidepressant. Second generation to Elavil. Less side effects than Elavil
Close Lupus
Diag. with SLE 7 months ago. Plaquenil 200mg twice daily. No organ involvemnte, Mylar rash, Joint pain, extreme fatigue.
