Well, yesterday did NOT go to plan. Ay yi yi!
I got to work, I started working, the office was warm, which is the usual since the weather has been so warm and we're too broke to turn on the A/C. About 11:30, I started feeling distinctly unwell. I was exhausted and sleepy and fighting to stay awake. This has become common with the office so warm, though. My tummy had been a little upset all morning, and my allergies were acting up something fierce, but I had been dealing with it up until then. I was eating saltines and drinking ridiculous amounts of water, which usually helps the tummy. Instead of helping it, I got nauseous. Suddenly, my tummy was extra sore, my nose was extra runny, and I was hot. Then I was cold. Then I was hot. I get hot and cold flashes like that sometimes when I have really bad diarrhea, so I decided to get the heck out of there and head home.
On the drive home, the hot and cold flashes stopped. My nose stopped running. The tummy was still a bit upset.
I got home, sat down for a bit, and felt 100% fine. What the heck?
I ate lunch, expected fireworks from the system, nothing.
I have no idea what happened in the office. I haven't felt that kind of nausea in years. I really thought I'd break my 10-year rule. (I only vomit once every 10 years. That's right. 10 years. I was 8, I was 18, and I was 28, so I've got 3 more years before I'm due again.) Then, I get home, and I'm fine. I was still tired, but it wasn't the all-encompassing exhaustion I felt at the office. I had taken a Mucinex, so the runny nose is explained, but the hot and cold flashes are also still a mystery.
I had a nice afternoon at home, anyway. I got in the hot tub, I made dinner, and otherwise took it easy. I'm just hoping whatever it was has passed so I can get back to work today!
About defrosting the turkey, we do the water-thaw every year, too. It always just cracks me up when the "experts" tell you two days in the frig should do it. I give it four, and it's never thawed, and the biggest turkey we ever had was 8 pounds. I don't know what people do with a 25-pound bird. How do you even fit a bird that size in your frig? You'd have no room for anything else!
Nasty thunderboomers are passing right now. Even Ruby Dee is nervous, and she doesn't usually get nervous about storms. It's the rolling kind of thunder that seems to never end, and it's completely freaking her out. I have to say, it's not exactly calming me, either! Oy!
I got some decent sleep last night, so let's see how it goes, shall we? Happy Tuesday!

Wow, this weekend went by fast. It's already Monday!
Yesterday was pretty much a rest day. The tummy has been bothering me slightly since Saturday, so taking it easy yesterday was a good move. I got my phone calls done, and I caught up on my TiVo recorded shows, and that's about it! I didn't even get my pills sorted for the week! I will have to do that tonight.
Junior has been extra affectionate lately. I think he missed Hubby more than anyone. Since Caramel Corn is my baby, I don't get to love on Junior very often with CC interfering. This means when Hubby is not home, Junior doesn't get much love. While the Young'Un was here, Junior was all over her. And the past two nights, he has wanted to sleep with me. Last night, with Hubby there to distract CC, Junior was able to plant himself between my feet. I remember waking up at some point in the night and he was wedged so far up my butt I couldn't move and had to put him back down between my feet. And he was still there when I got up this morning. Sully woke me up at 5:15, as usual. Junior has been by my side all morning, too. We just had a huge lovefest! Very unusual. I got to brush him, which he needs far more than he gets. He doesn't shed like he should, so he needs to be brushed every so often, but it's hard to get him to sit still for it. He likes getting his head and back brushed, but when you stray too far towards his legs and butt, he'll give you love bites to tell you to stay away from there. Unfortunately, that's where he needs it the most. I now have a pile of cat fur in the trash can big enough to make a whole nother cat, and I could just keep on brushing him for hours!
It's so close to turkey day, I just want to stay home all this week to gear up for it. Getting that closet cleaned seems to have inspired me to want to clean more, too. Unfortunately, doughbutts must be made! I'm working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday this week, and I have off Thursday and Friday. It's going to be an unusual week all around! Happy Monday!

Ok........ defrosting turkey.
If it's never totally thawed just using the refrigerator method, then cold water thawing the morning of might be needed.
We had a 14 lb. bird, and my husband took it out of the freezer around 6am, and it was thawed by 11:30. The water has to be changed a lot, as it gets so cold from the bird, it won't continue to thaw.
"I now have a pile of cat fur in the trash can big enough to make a whole nother cat, and I could just keep on brushing him for hours!"
LOLOL! We know that phenom! And the behavior too. Spot likes to be brushed, but doesn't like to be brushed. He's a challenge. His moods on the issue change faster than Sally Field in Sybil.
I hope your Monday is kind to you.....

As my status indicates, I got very little sleep last night, but that's okay, because Hubby is home! YAYAYAYAY!!!
The Young'Un and I got the bathroom closet put back together, and not only do I have a whole shelf to put my sheets and towels on, now, I have another almost empty shelf! I have started putting other things there that were just sitting out, and already the room looks a little less crowded. Yay! Now I just have to do this with every other closet, cabinet, and drawer in the house. Oy!
We also got the grocery shopping done. Double Yay! Now we're all set for turkey day on Thursday. Well, except that I have to take the turkey out of the freezer today and find room for it in the frig. Hmmmmmmmm... that will be a hard one! I always take the turkey out of the freezer on Sunday, and it's never thawed by Thursday, which makes no sense, since we just get a turkey breast, and not a huge turkey. Maybe I have my frig set too cold? Who knows?
After groceries, I dropped the Young'Un off at home, I came home, fed the animals, and rested. Hubby took a cab home, and was suitably surprised when he went downstairs and saw his rack standing there! Now that we have it down there, it looks a lot bigger than we imagined it. I don't know how he's gonna get that huge thing in his little office! He has all day today to work on figuring it out, though!
Since I got laundry done on Wednesday, it's one less thing for me to get done today. Yay! Still to do: phone calls, make breakfasts, sort pills, and whatever the heck I want!
Happy Sunday!

This is my first turkey cooking year! You have reminded me that I have no idea when to start defrosting the thing. NOTE TO SELF!
Seems the Young'Un spends a lot of time with you! This is a good thing I guess. It keeps her busy, and keeps her mind off of depressing things as she is being helpful, and for you....you have assistance in all that has to be done around the house!! Works out great!! I'm happy for you!!
Do whatcha gotta do today. Tomorrow, I forget, maybe not tomorrow.....I think doughbutts aren't till Tuesday! My poor bwain!!!

Hmmmmmmm... Do you take Milk Thistle? An old saw theory is that the liver is what controls the body temp. Maybe your liver needs some assist.
Our cookbook says 3-4 days for a 14 lb bird. My husband did the cold water though, and put it in the oven at 11:30, and it was ready around 4:30.
Have you checked your fridge and oven temps? Are they running accurately? Do they need calibrated?
I'll shut up now.....
We're in for days on end of rain now. But we kind of need it. I just have to make sure I don't let the 'dreary' swallow me whole.
