I was diagnosed 3/2000 after 6 months and 4-5 doctors all looked at me like I was nuts. I'm usually pretty functional, but Iowa winters are hard. In addition to what is listed below, I also take enough vitamins to choke a horse.
Treatments
- 5-HTP Working / Worked
- I'm up to 600mg/day, 200 in the morning, 400 at night. I'm sleeping a lot better, and my mood has improved a bit.
- Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
- Hot tub - This helps with the muscle pain and is supposed to boost the immune system! I love it!
- Carnitine Not Working
- It made me feel anxious and like I was going to have heart palpitations, so I stopped it.
- Flexeril Working / Worked
- I take this at night to help me sleep.
- Heat Somewhat Helpful
- This helps my muscle pain, especially my lower back.
- L-Arginine Somewhat Helpful
- I can't remember who suggested this or what it was supposed to do; I'm thinking maybe it was to help with weight loss? No side effects so far, so I'm sticking with it.
- Lyrica Somewhat Helpful
- I take this when I absolutely can't stand the neuropathic pain any more. Makes me a little dizzy then. If I take it regularly, I get too many side effects.
- Magnesium Somewhat Helpful
- The magnesium helps the muscles, but hurts the gut.
- Neurontin Not Working
- Started 2/29/08 - Took 1 before bed, best sleep I've had in years. Didn't mix well with my B/C pill and caused anxiety.
- Physical Exercise Working / Worked
- When I get some aerobic exercise in on a regular basis, and it doesn't have to be much, I do tend to feel better.
- Probiotics Working / Worked
- Digestive Advantage for IBS - I love it! I used get diarrhea constantly to the point where I'd miss work. Now, I usually just get gas. I still have bouts, but they're not as bad.
- Synthroid Working / Worked
- I also have thyroid problems so I take this. Brand only, though! Generic made my thyroid function yo-yo!
- Ultram Somewhat Helpful
- Ultracet - I take this when my muscle pain gets too bad. It helps, but does not work on neuropathic pain.
