Hi Jane, I have spoken with several lawyers, there are many schools of thought, one is if you are a non profit reg charity, you have to have and follow strict rules, the founder can get voted out in as little as 2 years, you are subject to local zoning, codes and other weirdness that could make it a real paperwork chore. I have had several documents drawn up to cover basics, worksheets, questionairs, agreements (like, I promise not to punch anyone if I am on riba rage) rules like that, house rules, programs and such, most will fly as written, there is some state rules (and I dont know what state it is going to be yet) that will have to be addressed.
We are working with several people to see if we can do this the way I have in mind, we may have to be outside the city limits, yet close enough to medical support. There are millions of little things that must be confirmed first, no sense in doing anything until we know it can be done.
As far as the money, you are correct when you state that most corporations will not donate money to charities not registered, however, I have spoken to several CEOs, CFOs and presidents suggesting that instead of a grant, or gift, that it is more of a partnership, an expense for them, they like that for many tax reasons and there is less paperwork for them and us. I want to make it simple.
Some of the donations will be a one time only deal, like large screen TVs, furniture, appliances, etc. and some will need to be ongoing donations of money, medicines, transportation, food and such.. I am nowhere near being done with this but hope to be totally done by Spring and have a huge grand opening. We will have sponsors, volunteers (one area I am considering has a large Choctaw population that offered work/labor/services and really dont know that much, they are so sweet... We will see how it all works out.
I just get so excited about the grand opening, having people arrive and settle in, visit, enjoy the walking paths, the ponds, the workshops, art/craft room, and gardens. It could turn into a money making concern if there are enough of us that can create things, grow top quality herbs, vegetables for 4 and 5 star restaurants, or sell them at a fruitstand, raise fish, sell them fresh, grow pumpkins for the fall, have a horse and sleigh ride through the property all lit up with solar powered star lights in winter, who knows? It could be a blast or it may not work out at all because of a code that only allows 5 people to live in one house or something. I love everyones suggestions and am open minded to all thoughts on the subject.
I just know the main thing will be takng care of people going through this treatment and have nobody to help them out, they need support, reminders to take pills, shots, drink water, eat, exercise and friends that are there to help them with whatever they need.
Well, I am off to lay down, I had a rough day, I hope to talk to you soon,
Cynthia

This sounds marvellous my dear - but first you'll need to see a lawyer - I think you will need to become a registered Charity. Corporations won't give to individuals - or very rarely: they might cough up if you are Registered, as they get Tax Credits on the money donated. Sorry to sound so overpractical, but it alll has to be done in the right way. That's how things work here, & I suspect it's pretty much the same in your part of the world. Fond regards, JaneD.

I have hit a few road blocks, but I will either go around, over, under or through them, I guess I have had such a hard time that I want to help anyone in the same situation. Plus, after treatment, some people just dont get their energy back and may not be able to work full time and run a household, so this would be a nice option. I have a list two pages long to do tomorrow... but I am taking today off to rest.
