The Road To Civilization... Mood
Tuesday, February 3, 2009 | A Rambling story

Had my first somewhat meaningful conversation with my ex a couple of weeks ago. It started because Connor was going but didn't want to stay as long as his Dad wanted him to. This had just happened and Connor (now that he is taller than his Dad??) is starting to speak up for himself.

Anyway.... during our conversation we were able to get some things off our chest. We agreed that our homes are nothing alike. He acknowledged that he has been over-the-top nasty at times and apologized. He said that this was due to pent-up frustration. I asked him who he was frustrated with and suggested that he take it out on that person. It is not me. He also actually verbalized a fairly decent understanding of what he has done to his relationships with the kids. Connor is moving on with his life and his 1 hr away Dad is not a very big part of it. The older the kids get the less he will see them. I would hate to be him.

We agreed that Civil is the best that we can hopw for so I suggested that the next time he write me a letter he could oput my name on it and sign his. We did have 2 kids together after all and it is only decent. I am not going to respond to anymore letters that are not addressed to me. I just got another one and it had my name on it. He said that he can't talk to me and writting letters is easier for him. Whatever.

He told me that I am a good Mom and that "to my credit" I have kept everything going and the kids have done well. I know that he would secretly be happier if I had fallen on my face but I can ignore that.

I'm glad that, no matter what the reason is, he has decided to be a little less hateful. I can do Civil. It's about time.

Things around here are trucking right along...
