So I probably won't be around much until the de-snottification process is over.

I am slowly healing from the loss of my twin brother in Jan '07 from cancer/suicide. We were so in-tune with each other emotionally . . . I miss him badly, but with time, the hurt seems to lessen a bit. I am a PhD student in mathematics and I teach mathematics at a local college.

Type: Loss of a SiblingI lost my twin brother Jacob to suicide on January 13, 2007. He was diagnosed with leukemia about a year before and none of the treatments were working. The cancer progressed very rapidly and I guess he felt that if was going to die soon anyway, he would do it on his own terms, with some dignity left.
Treatments
- Ativan Working / Worked
- This is my anti-anxiety medication. I take 1mg in the morning and 2mg at night (so I get sleepy).
- Crying Somewhat Helpful
- I'm just now (after a year) beginning to have days where I don't cry at all. It still helps to talk with friends about the people we've lost and to hug and cry together. I also cry alone quite a bit in the car and in the shower.
- Effexor Working / Worked
- I've been on this one for several months and it has helped tremendously!! Works in combination with Lexapro.
- Psychotherapy Not Working
- I stopped therapy because it wasn't working for me. I'm considering trying it again with someone new.
- Talking Working / Worked
- Talking to people on this site has been the thing that keeps me going. I also have a lot of in-person friends that care about me. I would be lost without talking to all of them.
- Wellbutrin Not Working
- Way too many side effects that I couldn't deal with!!
Close Fibromyalgia
I believe I've had fibro for many years, but had a horrible flare-up in Feb. '07 and was diagnosed in March. It affects mostly my neck, shoulders, and upper back.
Treatments
- Acupuncture Considering
- Some people swear by it, but I'm still skeptical . . .
- Cyclobenzaprine Working / Worked
- I took this at night when it was really bad. Makes it easy to go to sleep, but doesn't relieve pain during the day . . .
- Effexor Not Working
- I was already on this for depression and anxiety for a few months before my fibro diagnosis . . . it's working for the depression and anxiety , but not for the fibro.
- Heat Working / Worked
- Works to relax muscles, but it makes me very hot and nauseous.
- Lyrica Not Working
- Caused way too much weight gain!
- Ultram Working / Worked
- I take it as needed, not regularly, and it works just about as well as motrin or advil . . .
- Vitamin B12 Working / Worked
- I take this in the morning. It helps keep my energy up.

Open Migraine Headaches
I was diagnosed with migraines at age 11, and then with cluster headaches just a few weeks ago at age 24. I get two or three major headaches a week and they are so debilitating that they interfere with my school and work.
Treatments
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- no caffeine, not too much citrus
- Excedrin Working / Worked
- works awesome to get rid of the headache, but get awful side effects from the caffeine
- Imitrex Not Working
- tried it, did nothing
- Naproxen Somewhat Helpful
- Topamax Considering
- I need to hear more about it from people who have taken it.
- Ibuprofen Somewhat Helpful
- 800mg will significantly reduce the severity of a migraine or cluster headache but it does not last long and the headache comes back
