      Type: Loss of a Partner/Spouse

My wife Mary had numerous health problems resulting from years of diabetes including heart and circulatory. She had surgery in August '06 for what appeared to be a brain anneurysm. As it turned out we could have forgone the surgery and now I wish we had. This was followed by a stroke in Oct. While in rehab for the stroke she contracted an infection and died of heart failure on Christmas day. God how I miss her.

      Treatments

      Crying Somewhat Helpful
Occasions of crying, anxiety, fear of future without her.
      Grief Counseling Working / Worked
Just finished six session grief group counseling program through local hospice. Very helpful but for me the program wasn't long enough. I wish it could have been longer.
      Prayer Somewhat Helpful
Trying to understand why events of past six months happened and God's plan in taking her so early in life. Trying to find peace in losing someone who so much loved life.
      Psychotherapy Considering
Would rather use support group of others who know what I am going through personally rather than a therapist who learned it in a book.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Thank God for my closest friends. They are truley helping me to get through this horrible time.
    • Close Diabetes Type 1

My wife had Type 1 Diabetes since age 7. She died on Christmas day '06 at 49. She missed her 50'th birthday by 60 days (2/23). While she didn't live exactly as she should form diabetes care, she enjoyed life. Complications from the disease eventually took her away.

      Treatments

      Lantus Working / Worked
Her endocrinologist and us honed it in pretty well and it worked pretty well for the most part.
    • Open Widows & Widowers

My wife Mary died on Christmas day from long standing complications from diabetes. She had brain srgery in August, a stroke in October, and complications while in rehab during December. She was only 49. I can't believe she is gone. I know I will go on but it hasn't been three months yet and its hard to do.

      Treatments

      DailyStrength Working / Worked
Thank God for my friends on DS. Hate they are going through this too but need their support to get through it. We help each other.
      Grief Counseling Working / Worked
Went through initial grief group twice and it was helpful but not long enough. Planning to go through single sessions on the holidays. Wish they offered advanced group for people who went through the first group, got some time behind them, and are now dealing with getting on with your life issues.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Thank God for family and close friends. I couldn't have gotten this far without them.
