I was visiting the local nursing home today as I usually do every Monday. I have a friend there that I go see. He is 95 years old and we met about 2 years ago. He was an old bachelor and was a World War 2 veteran. I began visiting him about 2 years ago, listened to his stories about the war, places he had been, etc. I began to ask him about his soul, if he was a Christian and he said he never did attend church much. As time passed, our friendship grew and he said he'd never met a preacher like me. Finally one morning I went to visit him and we started talking and he got tears in his eyes and he asked me how a person could be saved and know Jesus. I explained to him how Jesus died for him, how Jesus loved him and I asked him if he wanted to accept Jesus as his Saviour. He said yes and I led this old 95 year old man to Christ. His whole demeanor changed, he had a soft heart and tears ran down his face. Others at the nursing home, saw the change in him. He has been in and out of the hospital the past 6 months and his health had started to deteriorated a lot the past Months.
Today, I went in his room and the nurses had told me that he was in bad shape, that he was not responsive. I stood beside his bed and said a quiet prayer for him. I did not try to wake him and I could tell that it wouldn't be long before his passing. As I left his room, I patted his foot and said "Lord, let him pass peacefully".
I went down the hall about 4 rooms and was visiting with some elderly ladies that I knew and one of the housekeeping girls came to the door, grabbed my arm and said "I believe Short is going". I went to his room and this sweet little man had went to be with the Lord. This was less that 10 minutes after I left his room.
"Short" as he was known, had a lot of friends but, evidently no-one had ever been concerned about his soul and eternal destiny. I thank God that I led this old man to the Lord and that I was blessed to have known him as a friend . He is with the Lord now, no pain, no suffering, and no sadness.

You are such a Blessing for so many my friend. Im glad Short had you with him I have no doubt he felt peace and love

thank you all for you kind words. It was an honor and a priviledge to know "Short" Zander. What good friends we became and prayed together, laughed together, and shed tears together. I am so glad that I got to lead him to Christ. What joy it was to see the change.
