Frustrated about Health Insurance Mood
Tuesday, December 2, 2008 | A Frustrating story
I am needing to switch health insurances starting in Jan.  But have been denied by two different companies because of "pre-existing" condition...ENDO!!!!!!  This is insane!  I have never encountered this before.

i deeply deeply abhor the health insurance industry- people's health should not be an INDUSTRY but a right that we all have access to. That said, which health insurance do you currently have and who are you switching to? I know it varies a lot by state and such but i've had endo for half my life and have never been declined coverage because of it. i can't remember all the insurance i've had over the years but do know that Oxford, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield all treated me. sometimes it can depend on what codes the docs use- do you have a doc you are working with that could help you with this transition? there are also patient's rights groups that could help- i'm happy to help you track some down in your area.

hang in and try not to focus on the individuals that you are dealing with- the person on the other end of the phone probably feels the way you do but it's their job to do what the company says- it's a system and an industry treating you like crap, not the individual (although some times it is the individual). i try to remember this when i get really frustrated working with the health care industrial complex and just want to scream at the next person who answers my call.

    hang in there!

Thanks. Funny thing...I was switching from Aetna to Aetna! I am on my dad's insurance right now but he is retiring so I need to switch back to my own. (I am a nanny..and though my employers pay for my insurance...they don't offer it so I get it on my own and they pay for it.)I wanted to keep Aetna since my Drs all accept that! It seems I can actually get some insurance thru the state of IL, thru Blue Cross/Blue Shield....it's for people who can afford insurance but have been declined. It wasn't just the endo but also because I am being treated for depression, asthma, allergies (umm, which from all I have read can all be RELATED to the ENDO!!!!) I'm on a really expensive Anti depressent. Who knows. I am really frustrated though!! THis is actually the first time I have ever been turned down for insurance...but I was turned down by two!
