Last night we noticed that Bailey was having difficulty urinating. Only a little comes out and he keeps trying and trying. A couple time he was crying and yelping in pain. I just took him to the vet first thing this morning and they are keeping him for a few hours. They gave him a sedative and will take x-rays and a urine sample (by catheter, I assume?) It could be kidney stones. I am hoping it's only a bladder or kidney infection. I am very worried. It breaks my heart to see him in pain like that. I absolutely hate leaving him there...it is the hardest thing to walk away and drive home without him. My other two dogs can't figure out where he is...
If it is kidney stones, he could need surgery. that scares the hell out of me. Plus it's probably very expensive and I don't know what to do. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Fingers are crossed, hope everything will be O.K.

I understand. We lost a Roscoe to kidney disease years ago. He couldn't walk and and just lay there and whimpered until even little Stephy said to let him go. Boomer searched the house for days, looking for him.

We picked Bailey up from the vet. There were no stones visible on the x-ray. It is possible he passed it last night and that could be why he was crying and yelping. We may not know until Monday or Tuesday if there are crystals in his urine. We have to wait for the lab results. He is on some antibiotics now and he's sleepy from the sedative.

I hope he's okay!

He seemed to be doing much better yesterday and today. No more straining to pee. He did seem to lose bladder control a couple times, though (unfortunately once inside the house) but I think that is to be expected right now. Kiersten stayed home with him today. Hopefully he gets back to normal quickly because we can't stay with him all week. He still looks a little sad so we keep loving on him.

GOOD NEWS! I called the vet to get the lab results and they said there was blood and definite signs of infection. NO crystals or stones…our boy is going to be ok!! He did say that we should bring a urine sample to be tested after he finishes all the antibiotics to make sure the infection has cleared up completely. WHAT A RELIEF!

So glad Bailey is going to be on the mend and no surgery. Star's never been sick yet but I'm sure when or if she is I will be just as bad as I was when my sons were. How have you been doing? No snow yet? Sorry we beat the Cubs yesterday! It was a tough game. Titans 9-0!!
