I had been teaching for 13 years at the elementary level in the state of Michigan. I have two children, one boy and one girl both are austic. My main goal as a mother is to find the resources necessary for them to be able to live "normal" lives.

Interests
I'm kind of an eclectic in my interest. I enjoy the fine arts. I particularly like creating pottery, and sculpture. I also play the piano, and clarinet. Scrapbooking has been my only creative outlet lately. I also enjoy read. Hockey, softball, and volleyball are sports that I like to play.

HI, read your post on financial help,, find your local Community Mental health agency and give them a call, I live in the UP but used to live in GR so I know there is help there also ARC,, I took my daughter to pathways they tested her and now I get speech, OT and Behavior therapy,,, Hugs Jen

- ABA Working / Worked
- My son gets ABA daily at school and they let me know what to work on at home.
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Somewhat Helpful
- It was really hard to find and fix gluten free food. Plus expensive. I know that I'll try it again. It will have to be a life style change for our family.
- Behavior Management Somewhat Helpful
- We had a BIP written for my daughter, however the idot that put it together didn't follow through.
- Brushing Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- It didn't work with my daughter, and a little with my son. Now that he is older I'd like to try it again.
- Early Intervention Working / Worked
- Early On services were wonderful for both of my children
- Floor-Time Therapy Working / Worked
- Occupational Therapy Working / Worked
- Pets Working / Worked
- Picture / Word Schedules Working / Worked
- This really helped my daughter, so that she could anticipate what would come next.
- Play Therapy Working / Worked
- Over the summer I took my daughter to a play therapy group and it really was helpful.

- It worked while we were going. As soon as we would start to back off and not go weekly my ex would go back to his old ways.

- His didn't work. We separted then got back together and he continued to "talk" to other women.

- I continue to go. It's really helped me to become strong and put things in perspective.

- Help me to see that my ex-husband was a verbally abusive person.
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- I would be lost without the support of my family and friends.

- He just keep trying to shift the blame.
Open Single Parenting
I'm a single parent with two autistic children. I divorced my husband because he was cheating on me. Our divorce was final in Jan. although it's had been over a year since I kicked him out of the house. I'm actually a lot happier now. Although, it's difficult at times to deal with everything on my own. I'm thankful for a very supportive family and friends.
