Close Parenting Newborns & Infants (0-1)
I am a stay-at-home mom of a 4 month old son. I do breastfeed and it has been beneficial for both of us. He also has hemophilia. He was diagnosed only 2 days old.
Treatments
- Breast Feeding Working / Worked
- It was difficult at first, but eventually we both got the hang of it. He eats a lot so he is supplemented with formula 1-2 times a day, but mostly breastfeed. I enjoy the fact that he is getting his nourishment from me and we are bonding at the same time.
- Patience Working / Worked
- Being a new mom definately requires patience. That is something that I have in limited supply. I remind myself that he is only a baby and cannot tell me what it is he wants or needs. That puts things back into perspective and I also have family to help when I need it.
- Research Working / Worked
- Research and speaking with other parents and doctors has helped his father and I to accept that he has a blood disorder and how to deal with the complications that will come with it. It was a shock because it doesn't run in my family, but we have learned that it could be worse and he will have lots of opportunities because of it.
Close Depression
New mom of 4 month old son. Stay at home to breastfeed.
Treatments
- Paxil Not Working
- Second one I tried. Made me constantly tired and hungry. Put back on pregnancy weight and was too tired to take care of my son properly.
- Positive Thinking Not Working
- Been depressed for a long time and tried the mind thing of telling myself it's not so bad. Didn't work. Days seemed so hopeless it ruined my life.
- Prozac Too Soon to Tell
- Weaning of Paxil onto Prozac currently. Has a little bit of an energizing boost which is very good for me. I am not hungry all the time and can eat smaller meals. I feel more confident and motivated. Cannot tell in the long run, only been on it for 2 weeks so far.
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- Friends and family always help. I am so happy to have the ones I have.
- Writing Considering
- I haven't tried writing although I have heard it is beneficial. I am thinking about it though.
- Zoloft Working / Worked
- First medication I tried. Was recommended because I was pregnant. Started it after my son was born and it didn't have enough of an effect on me. I still had anxiety and days of depression. No side effects.
Open Anxiety
I have anxiety along with depression. When I became pregnant, the anxiety skyrocketed. I was soo worried about affecting my unborn child and post-partum that I finally told my OB.
Treatments
- Paxil Somewhat Helpful
- It helped to calm my anxiety for the most part and some of my depression, but I was constantly tired and hungry all the time. I put on all the pregnancy weight I had lost and was too tired to take care of my son properly.
- Zoloft Not Working
- This was the first med I tried. It didn't have any side effects that I was aware of, but it didn't help much for either depression or anxiety.
- Prozac Too Soon to Tell
- I have now been on this for 2 weeks. Still weaning off Paxil. I feel a little better. I am not as tired and it does have some sort of energy booster. I do feel somewhat more motivated and a little more confident.
Open Hemophilia
: Factor XIII (Classic) Hemophilia17 mo. old son with Severe Hemophilia type A. Found out when he was 2 days old. Pricked his heal for glucose test when he was born and bled for 2 whole days. Devastated at first, but now a blessing in disguise. Father blames me, but no history and not sure if I'm a carrier or not. Looking for others out there with this disorder or family members.
Treatments
- Factor VIII (Antihemophilic Factor) Working / Worked
- Just this summer went to a Hemophilia clinic in Traverse City. His specialist found that he is producing antibodies and now has a port in his chest. So far, so good.
