    • About Me

Hello, my name is Mckenzie, I am part of the DS TEAM as the COMMUNITY LEADER OF THE HEP C COMMUNITY. Married, have been blessed with 2 wonderful children, and one grandson. We are owners of a nice hobby farm. We have horses, beef cattles, and many more creatures from God. We have over 105 acres of land, so no neighbours. Peace and quiet the way we love it. If I had to re-do it all over, I would definately go into Medicine. I love and learn something new every day, and for some reason it sticks with me. Love it!

    • Miss You

      From JaneD Yesterday

      Greetings Mck,
I've had a lot of incoming mail - so much from new people: now I have not heard from you for a while, so hope this does not mean that you have been really sick! I recall that you had a lot of tests results due in August, but cannot remember how you went (that is probably my bad memory). It is getting warm now - so we have had bushfires today - 3 houses burned down already! I guess you have snow coming down now. Have had a heap of electrical appliances go BUNG! - my dear washsing machine "Elsie" who is 22 years old, has finally kdied - itr's Swedish, & they no longer keep the parts in Australia! This makes me mad,as it was really expensive - I saved for 1 year to get it. Yest. my ISP were off air for the whole day, & I could not use the computer anyway - I messed it up: Got a nice Aid person on their Tech site - very patient with me, so am back. How is your Sammy going at school? I've had 2 old friends die in the past couple of weeks, it has been sad! - makes me feel old - these are people of about my age, so mortality is staring at me.....Take care, Fond regards, JaneD.

    • Close Hepatitis C

Diagnosed in 2000, did treatment pegetron/ribavirin for 48 weeks, since then and now years later, still clear. Both my hubby and I consider ourselves cured of the virus, as long as we live a Healthy lifestyle, and no alcohol ever again. The antibodies are always there, but no viral load, sort of dormant, or remission is you want. After over 5 yrs now, I am slowly starting to live a normal life, trying to get rid of all the medication I have to take for osteoarthritis, DDD, and chronic pain. Mack

      Treatments

      Interferon Working / Worked
Unfortunately I had lots of sides.
      Paxil Working / Worked
Started them12 weeks into treatment, should have started 2 weeks before starting the meds. Anti's are a must during Interferon treatment.
      Ribavarin Working / Worked
Again had lots of side effects and to this day, still experience long term side effects.
    • Close Asthma
      Type: Adult Asthma

I've had Asthma since age 14, now 46. Just finished a pneumonia, feel much better.

      Treatments

      Inhaler Working / Worked
I get at least one pneumonia a year. Use three inhalers a day.
      Albuterol Working / Worked
still need to walk very slowly, easily out of breath.
    • Open Chronic Pain

A few years ago I went on a 48 weeks chemo treatment, peg/riba, and stayed with some long lasting side effects.

      Treatments

      Paxil Working / Worked
I first took paxils when I did my treatment, then eventually quit, went back to work for almost a year, and did a burn out, now I'm back on them.
      Oxycodone Somewhat Helpful
20mgs x 2 a day, not nearly enough but this is the first time I have this kind of meds.
    • Open Lung Cancer

going thru the motions not diagnosed yet, TC Scan next friday. Damaged left lung

    • Open Smoking Addiction & Recovery

Just diagnosed with COPD and need to quit smoking. I have a book that my specialist has given me with steps towards being a non-smoker, but I need a good support group to help me as well.

      Treatments

      Nicotine Patch Working / Worked
For the past week I have put on a 21mgs patch and chew a nicoret gum when I feel like smoking one. Very difficult, but doable.
    • Open COPD & Emphysema

Diagnosed with COPD & Emphysema earlier this month, July 2007.

      Treatments

      Advair Too Soon to Tell
      to soon to tell
      Singulair Working / Worked
      Too soon to tell
    • Open Degenerative Disc Disease

Since I've always work sitting down at a desk, a year and a half ago, I went to see my PCP not being able to stay put, my hip was in such pain. I thought it was the asciatic nerve, so he sent me for a x-ray which revealed that I had several degenerative disc in my lower back. Having multiple chronic illnesses, I am currently on 60mgs of oxcycontin, which relieves some of the pain, but not nearly enought. What to do next, I just don't know? Have been dealing with other tests, next deal with disks

    • Open Arthritis

After years of living with chronic pain syndrome, finally diagnosed with osteoarthritis, and DDD. Need a knee replacement, and mayby a ankle, and hip. My other knee has water already, so just a question of time. Schedual to see a Rheumatologist in August. Seeking for words of advice when I do have my appointment.

      Treatments

      Surgery, Knee Replacement Considering
My left knee is finished. Need a knee replacement, but doctors says I'm too young, but it's already spurring so it's just a question of time. Was told to avoid stairways. mmmm
    • Open Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS)

ok, first off I am here on behalf of my husbands step father. He had been diagnosed with GBS since last fall and they still don't have him on any kind of treatment, so I decided to come and see what would help him. He is scared to sleep at night in case he would paralise up to the chest, so far his legs and mid section below are partly paralised. A very scared man at this point..

    • Open Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety

During chemo treatment, that kepted me housebound for a year, the situation went on to be the same post treatment. I never would go out even though my journey was finish, and years later, I am slowly starting to live life again. But one incident happened in July of this year 2008, which left me starting panic attacks again, which I had not experienced since doing chemo treatment in 2004. The passing of my dear friend, has got me stranded again. So once and awhile I need a place like this forum

    • Open DailyStrength Members Community

Mckenzie here, Hep c Community Leader & Hep c advocate for years now. In 2007, I first joinned the hep c community here, but it was like a ghost town. Having just opened a few months previously, I managed to get the people not only to ask for advice, but to stick around, in order to build a family, out of our forum. Guess what ? It worked. lol I love to help people, and share my own experience, so Thanks to DS, I have this great Community & Members. Love, Mckenzie One day at the time.

    • Open Diabetes Type 2

After years of being ill, not finding why I was so dizzy, weak, extreme fatigue, getting tested for this & that, was drinking lots of water daily, but always did, since 11 months of chemo 5 yrs ago, but started to drink more & more, so went to see PCP ask for a glucose blood test, bingo, my reading was sky high. Apparently he had not check me for diabetes in almost 3 years, so this was why I was so ill. Now on meds, & very strict diet, feel like a new person.
