You know all those bad tales we hear about truck drivers?? Well, don't believe all of them. My son drove an 18 wheeler for 22 yrs, drove two and half million miles and never had an accident but assisted others who did may times while working but that not the story I have to tell. this is.
Son and other drives developed some really good friendships during those 22 yrs. His friends helped him through a really bad time when he was divorcing his wife, who is an acholic and drug user, and trying to get custody of his son.
After about two years of going through the court system he won costudy and they now live here in Va. Beach with all their family and Oh, what a wonderful addition to our family he and his boy have been.
His son. Dwayne was 11 when he came here. My sons fellow workers toook Dwayne under their wing and try to see to it that he has good Christmases, Birthdays etc.
Dwayne is now 15 and is ready to get his drivers licence. He and his Dad plan to share one car if they can work it out.
One of the fellow truckers had a pasenger car/truck that he doesn't use often and my son noticed his driver friends were working on it at the wharehouse. He didn't think much about it cause they do that pretty often when one of their cars have a problem. Their employer lets them use any tools they need. Goood guy, huh?
About a month ago Dwayne and his Dad were enjoying a quiet Saturday at home when some of the fellows drove into their driveway in the truck. they got out of the truck, knocked on the door and when Dwayne answered their knock they said, 'Dwayne come look at your truck.' It was the one the guys had been working on at the warehouse. they had it in goood running condition and shined it up nice and shiney just for Dwayne. He and his dad were stunned but Dwayne got over that in a hurry and drove it for about a block but had to stop because he doesn't have his licence yet.
You know, people are good even the ones you hear stories about that look rough and tumble sometimes, and maybe accused of being bullies on the road. They're not all that way. they have families they love, have kindness in their hearts and have shown kindness and concerned for a boy who had a very unhappy childhood. What a wondereful gift.
Blessings Penny

I work with drivers,I am in the office and I have to tell you the bunch I work with are like family. One of their"brothers"was down with cancer and he passed away but these men managed to take $5000 out of their pockets to help the family with the necessities.I helped with a fundraiser for a friend from our warehouse that these guys didn't know and it was nothing for them to pull $10 or $20 out of their pockets to help with the cause. Some of them wrote the sick person's name on their tickets...not everyone will do that.
Sorry, just passing through.I am a friend of Lenox's and saw your journal on my home page.

That is a wonderful story Penny! Sounds like your son's co-workers really watch out for each other, and that's wonderful. I'm sure Dwayne is also soaking up all this goodness, too, and it will all make him a better man. Hugs, Sue

I just knew if I kept looking every day, you would write another journal that would be a delight and a joy to read. You sure didn't disappoint! People like this make me happy to be human!
However, when Dwayne gets his driver's license, I don't expect you to be running around all the teenage haunts with him dancing to rap music! Not unless you take Marg with you.....! LOL

Dwayne must be a lovely young man for them to think so highly of him. Their kindness is a beautiful thing to a young man who has been thru so much. Your son must be very proud of his fellow work mates and his son. You are blessed.

Oh my dear friend first of all it's so good to read some journaling from you!!!! This is a happy story too and warmed my heart. I've always thought highly of truckers myself and one of my best friends is one, they are hard working people and we'd be lost without them. Big hugs to you, your son and grandson. Love you Demo Sista!

Oh what a beautiful story. When reading this it actually gave me goose bumps. Not the kind when you are cold but the kind when something touches your heart. What amazing people. This is the perfect example of what more people need to be like. Gosh, just beautiful. I've missed you and our Sundays
