I am a 34 year old mother of 2.5 year old twins. I was diagnosed with CML April 06. I have been in complete remission since Oct 06. I take 400mg of Gleevec daily. I have a perfect match for bone marrow biopsy, if needed.

My story was funny too...I was having severe bleeding in between and during my periods...they swore I was pregnant...I told them if my name is Mary then by all means I am pregnant...I wasn't pregnant it was CML too. Welcome to DS ~ I am here to talk anytime. God Bless!

Close Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)
Funny story - I went to see my OB/GYN for side pain. Had a high white count so my doctor thought I had an STD! (Funny now, NOT funny then.) After 2 months of fighting with my doctor, I was referred to a hemotoligist. Guess what? I didn't have a STD - it was CML.
Treatments
- Gleevec Working / Worked
- I take 400mg / daily. I have to take Zofran with the Gleevec to avoid getting sick. I am tired but the medicine put me in COMPLETE remission in just 5 months.
- Hydroxurea Working / Worked
- Went on Hydroxurea in beginning to get numbers under control. Took for 2 months and went off. Worked for me. No side effects.
