I think we can all agree tonight is a historic night. Regardless of how you feel about Obama I hope we are all inspired by the amazing turnout and the emotional investment in this election we have never seen before.
Today I was doing rounds at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. It is common to have many folks hanging out in the waiting rooms outside of the surgical ICU waiting for the "5 minute at a time" visiting period to see their friends. Often these 18-20 something year old kids are waiting to visit their friends who have been shot.....some with gang names tattooed on their necks/arms/backs wait hours to see their friends. If you know me you know that I have been desperate to figure out how to engage these twenty year olds in society because I think there is so much wasted potential....and today what I saw really struck me.
At least seven of the twenty-something year olds had "I voted" stickers on...and told me they had already been to vote. I knew when I saw this it was a new day, a new day in politics...where people who have NEVER cared or NEVER felt cared about actually went out to vote.
I hope they are happy tonight. I hope they stay engaged and realize we are all in this together.
The better those who are struggling do...the better we all do.

A very astute observation, especially since those you speak of need to maintain thier 'colors' attitude

As do others, ChipChip. Dr. Orange, thank you for sharing that. What an emotion filled day/evening this has been. Regardless of where or with what "color" or political party your loyalties lie, everyone has experienced a potentially formidable turning point in our nation's history. I, for one, am glad that our young people have invested a personal interest in the future that is to come. "God bless the United States of America."

What a remarkable observation and so true. With each of those young adults who have taken a giant step towards being responsible adults by taking part in the process, we are all a little better off.

I am also encouraged with the 'twenty something' getting involved enough to vote. We all are looking to that generation to fund and care for the next group of retired people coming into the Social Security age. God Bless America, and thank you for getting into the process!

Dr Orrange...I voted in every election since turning 21 (at that time you had to be 21 to vote). I am really happy to see youths turn out in record numbers. Make everyone part of the process. In fact, the only people I see left out of the process are the homeless veterans, who can't vote due to the fact, they have no permanent home address. This Veteran's Day, please remember those who are homeless but yet served their country in the military.

I was happy and not surprised. The best man won and we all share a part in that. Barb-Detroit

yeah well, the ones that voted for Obama will soon be sorry. We will have more government shoved down our throats that you can believe...I would have voted for anyone over Obama... he is a socialist.
