i'm 24 years old, and a college student. i have an older 1/2 brother, an older 1/2 sister, an older sister, a younger brother, and a younger 1/2 brother (who's 4 and i haven't met). i am majoring in psychology and want to help those with eating disorders one day. i had a good friend pass almost a year ago due to her eating disorder and i want to help end the suffering. i'm highly perfectionistic, and driven. i love my family and friends more than they'll ever know. i'm only alive because of them.

Close Eating Disorders
Type: Anorexiamy name is erica. i'm 24 and have had an eating disorder for 11 years. first it was bulimia, now it's anorexia (b/p). i've been hospitalized more times than i can count and have gained a lot of insight into myself. sadly, i continue to struggle. i know one day i will be free.
Treatments
- Hospitalization Somewhat Helpful
- over the years i've learned things and i've grown as a person because of my experiences.
- Lexapro Not Working
- Outpatient Treatment Program Not Working
- i wasn't ready to participate fully in the program. i learned a lot of ways to cheat the "system"
- Overeaters Anonymous (OA) Considering
- there isn't currently an local chapters, but if there was i would go. when there use to be a meeting in town, only 2 people ever showed up.
- Paxil Not Working
- made me sick and overly anxious
- Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
- i've been in therapy for 8 years. i'm still sick, but life has gotten better somewhat.
- Residential Treatment Center Considering
- if i can find a way to pay for it, i'd go.
- Zoloft Not Working
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
- very very helpful. it's been the biggest help out of anything i've ever tried. i did the sessions for 6 months outpatient and it's been used when i've been in the hospital too.
Close Meth Addiction & Recovery
used meth for about 4-5 years. ended up getting way too attached to it. i was clean from Aug. 21 2006 until Dec. 2007 then i relapsed. i'm still currently using
Open Bereavement
Type: Loss of a Friendi lost a dear friend to her eating disorder on June 22, 2007 and i'm having a hard time dealing with it.
Open Anxiety
i was an anxious child, and i'm an anxious adult. i just recently realized how much it is affecting me and my day to day life.
Treatments
- Ativan Not Working
- it knocked me out, so i guess it was too powerful
- Breathing Exercises Too Soon to Tell
- i'm going to be starting diaphramatic breathing
Open Healthy Sex
i'm 24 years old and have found DS to be a wonderful support tool. i don't have much support in my daily life at home and a girl can't go through life without people to help her along. i hope to be able to give as well as receive healthy support and advice w/in this group.
