Journal Entry for October 30, 2007
hi i am currently looking after my mom who has Alzheimer's and having very litle supprt from my family. Mom seems to be less imprtant …
work as medical secretary. I have helped my mom look after my dad when he was sick with cancer until his passing in 1989. I looked after a sick aunt when she was dying from leukemia until her passing in 2005 and now am helping to look after a mom ( 87 years old) with Alzheimer's disease. It just does not quit but I have accepted the fact that perhaps this is my purpose in life. I have the (most often do) patience and compassion to help individuals in need. Although it is very draining, it is rewarding to know that I am doing my share to keep these loved ones comfortable at a time when they need it most.

Love to travel especially Alaska. The great outdoors where there are tall mature trees and lots of birds singing. Oh yes and water I love the sound of water rushing to the shores on an ocean or just a water fountain in the backyard. Reading thrillers or detective novels - like Deen Koontz, James Patterson, etc. Family is the highest on the list-especially my two grown kids living out in B.C. Canada. Like to shop for bargains when I have the time. Eating lunch with one or two close friends. I don't need a ton of friends, only one or two good ones. I did love watching American Idol and Survivor.

My mom is 87 years old and I have been taking care of her in her own home along with a caregiver for about 2 years now. It has been a rough road with mood swings, trying to "go home" when she was home, chasing the hired help away, etc. If you have someone in the family with AD you know what I mean. I am still glad though that she can afford to be in her own home (safety issues looked into) and feel comfortable. She is in her early-moderate stage. She can still function to dress herself, etc.
