Close Hydrocephalus
My husband and I will be married 15 years in Jan and we have a 3 year old son Ian. He was born at 24 wks gest. and developed meningitis at 2 mons old. From the infection he acquired hydrocephalus, he has had 20 shunt rev as of Oct 07 and has maxed out my husband's ins. He is on mine but we are trying again to apply for medicaid to help with some of the med expense. In Louisiana were we live you cannot make more that 29,000 a year for a family of 3 to quailfy for medicaid.
Treatments
- Shunts Working / Worked
- Ian has had 20 shunt rev as of Oct 07, he has had problems with infections and malfunctions,but shunts are our only option. He has developed some lymph problems from all the central lines he has had and he has some poor circulation from the strong antibiotics they have damaged some of the viens.
Close Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
I am 34 and have known I had PCOS since I was in my early twentys it never really mattered until my husband and I started trying to have a child. We tryed for 1 year with no success so I went to my OBGYN, he gave me clomid. Then I found an article about infertility with PCOS it said metformin helps. I brought it to my OBGYN and started on the med right away. One month later I was preg. Then at only 24wks 5 days I delivered. Ian was 1 lb 12 oz and has hydrocephalus, he is 3 now.
Treatments
- Clomid Working / Worked
- Took for one month, stopped and started metformin. Then resumed. Not sure if it helped or not.
- Metformin Working / Worked
- Started clomid then stopped, started the metformin stepped up to the 1500 mg by adding 500 mg a week till I was taking all three. After a week of 1500mg a day went back on the clomid. Got preg that month.
- Oral Contraceptives Working / Worked
- currently use BC, I was haveing 14 day periods and now I am done to 3 days a month and I know when they are coming. I even lost about 20 pounds when I started on the pill but have gained most of it back.
- Progesterone Working / Worked
- Kept my progesterone levels great.
Open Obesity
I have been overweight since I was in 5th grade, I wore a 14 then and have never seen that size again. No diet ever really works for me and my scheldule is so crazy since my son was born there is no time for trying to diet, I am lucky I stop to eat to start with. I know all bad stuff. I would really like to have gastric bypass but my ins does not cover it and I do not think I would get enough time for myself to have it and recover.
Treatments
- Gastric Bypass Surgery Considering
- Would love to do it but my ins does not cover it.
- LA Weight Loss Not Working
- Did not work for me, I was in the hosptial too much with my son and I was the only one in my home that would eat the food. I lost at first but could not keep losing.
Open Premature Birth
I am the Mother of a wonderful 4 year old. He was born at 24 weeks 5 days and has been a fighter from the start. He has hydrocephalus and has had 20 shunt revisions to date. My little hero.
