Years ago, I was inspired to read again after reading a book About A Boy by Nick Hornby. It's theme of dealing with alienation and depression struck a nerve, especially in the way the author integrated the emotional weight music places on our lives...
Inspired by this, I also wanted to write...Poetry lasted most of 2006. I kept a small notebook at all times. Wrote while on the subway. In my bed. Breaks at work...Some of my best stuff came from that period.
I had a couple of teen novels in the works at that time as well, but never got to finish them or flesh out more than 2 chapters. After that a dry spell. :(...
In spite of brief period flashes of genius, I never was satisfied enough with the material to continue onward with an idea.
Where the Wild Things Are film by Spike Jonze has me wanting to give my writing a second chance. Watching the film a second time, I found so many metaphors-the womb; the mask; the hero's journey; even that of Plato's allegory of the cave.
Plus, the fact it was based on a children's book makes me want to explore my childhood in writing a little more and in a creative way. Not quite sure how, but lately my inner Max is howling!!!!
More to follow!
